Have a great week everyone!!
It is enclosed, but powered by the usb port on the dreamlink. An ssd uses the same amount of power a usb thumb drive usues. If the dreamlink powers one, it will power the other.Could very well be a power supply issue.I have not had any ps issues as of yet, but I did try to remedy a sat signal issue with a larger power supply on 1 T5, but it wasn't the issue:it was the dl200.
This is the one we use:hxxps://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=179_1465&item_id=105313
Update: before I went with an Adata SSD I ordered a powered enclosure for an internal SSD.
I finally decided to disconnect Sat 110 from the Disque Switch.
Now I am only running Sat 91 directly to the T5. I tried connecting that powered SSD in the enclosure, but still freezes up showing scrambled Channel.
I will be ordering the Adata SSD to work with the stubborn T5.
Also a WD powdered USB would not work.
I decided also to go with only one Sat 91 so a Zinwell Switch I won't bother with.
You say: Now I am only running Sat 91 directly to the T5. I tried connecting that powered SSD in the enclosure, but still freezes up showing scrambled Channel. What exactly is "FREEZING UP" The T5 or the SSD ??
If it's the T5 (Freezing) then you have some other problem that's not related to connecting that powered SSD is my guess ?
Process of elimination, tracking it down, are you "ONLY" hooked up to one Sat. (91) or are there still others (110,119) hooked up as well. Suggest ONLY Setup on one Sat. say (91) no switches, etc. in the equation (single cable) direct to T5, run for a while as is
no (usb/pvr, plugged in) see if acts up, then get a small 4-8gb USB Stick/thumb-drive for PVR, Try it and see if acts up etc.
You have to TAKE One Step at a time, and track down what is causing your issue/problem.
I still believe it is a power issue (power adapter, board, caps, etc.) but you will have to find it.
Could be the unusual amount of porn recorded.lol
Most thumb drives need a change, along with hands when needed.;)
Please let's stay on topic here.
The bot who is the main Mod has said that in various threads.
When it does not stay on topic hoping this thread will not be closed.
Anyway I ordered a Sandisk 8gb flash drive, and this is for anything else than porn.
kind of a hijack but....
Let's stay chill and happy
All the best and good luck lionking
No problem I am cool with it.
Update: I received the Sandisk flash drive, and currently testing it. I will let you know the outcome of it soon.
New Update: I tried the Sandisk flash drive, and I even made sure it was formatted using easeus partition master for FAT32.
This is a 8GB flash drive because I could not get a hold of a 4GB flash drive, and unfortunately it gave me Invalid USB again.
I don't know what else to do about this T5, but I have heard since I have only running 91 on one dish through one LNB using one barrel connection to T5.
The other barrrel connector to T1.
This is just an idea, I went on Dish Settings under LNB Power instead of both of the DL boxes showing as On could one of them be 13v....the other would be 18v which I have saved afterward.
This did not work Invalid USB again.
Anyway I did a reboot to see if it will record and so far it is recording.
I will let you know later on if it freezes up goes scrambled on another update.
It just froze up and scrambled again so I really don't know what else to do maybe I have to do a factory recovery....factory bin...then newest bin I can't think of anything else.
Anyone else has any more ideas on how to solve this this?
Thanks in advance.
Did you make sure to turn off power to all LNB'S not in use or not being used ?
Any glitch with the T5 while recording "WILL" cause the recording to Freeze
Also possible HD Module or power cord adapter on it's way out ?
Yes all power turned off on all LNB'S not in use or not being used
I also decided to format one of my sandisk flash drives then do a copy paste of factory bin newest bin and proper name for T5
Just in case turning off server port for 110 and it has red bars.
Doing a new scan for 91 right now Power on Type Single Frequency 11.250 22KHz off including DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.1 and Legacy SW
Signal and Quality blue bars in the low to mid 90s
Trying a record for PVR now...cross my fingers.....
Nope it froze again.
Do you have a spare power adapter you can try instead of the one your using ?
I could see if I can find one.
Also I have LNB Power turned off on all SATS for Dish Settings the only thing is I still have 110 showing up through 91 with blue bars.
Could it be because I shouldn't have used the file for proper names?
Now the bars have gone red for SAT 110.
I am trying rec for PVR again, and I have found a power supply adapter that is 12v 1.5 and looks like the second one I used for the T5 not the original one.
I took this power supply adapter off a powered external usb drive...could that work?
Could be, don't load any Sat files, i would do a factory reset, then redo your settings on 91 "only"
no switches, etc. straight hookup (one cable) and SCAN IN CHANNELS (sat. scan) try to run bare bones etc.
I would also try a different power supply too 12v 3-5amp rated anything below 3amp is not going to do it
Update: After I did a factory update I made sure all Sats that were not in use LNB Power off.
I noticed 2 Sats 119 and 129 showed up Sat 91 which is the only Sat I am connected to.
Even after I turned off LNB Power showed blue bars s&q which then I had to switch from 11.250 to something else in LNB Frequency then bars went to red.
Right now so far using PVR to record with 8GB Sandisk Flash Drive, and still recording.
I will let you now how it goes how long it will record in the next update.
Unfortunately it didn't work.....froze up and scrambled.
Update: I did another factory set in System Recovery then discovered Sats 119 and 129 still said Sat 91 in the corner with blue bars still.
Even when LNB Power was off or on I then went down again to the line for LNB Frequency and saved both Sats as 00.00 which I hope will work with PVR this time.
I then rescanned channels for Sat 91 afterwards.
If this doesn't work for PVR I will let you know in
Update:
Unfortunately even after I listened to instructions, and completed them again using Sandisk 8GB Flash drive after 10 minutes froze and scrambled.
Is there a chance maybe I bought the wrong power supply adapter or it should be 12 volt 5 amp instead of 12 volt 3-5?
I know it still changes channels none of the rebooting the original power supply adapter did.
I do have another idea for a power supply which maybe going backwards having a cord then a box then a cord
This was found on Amazon.
Hope this no cause T5 rebooting again.

If you wish I can include a picture of it in another post... please let me know.
Thanks in advance
Are you using a single cable for one Sat-91 "only" no switches, no other Sat-cables (110,119,etc.) in the mix hooked up as well
One single cable, one LNB, Straight to receiver, Any Hiccup/glitch (server, weather, internet, module, etc.) will cause it to freeze
lockup, etc. it might be your HD Module going, internet up/down, will have to track it down ??
From LNB RG6 cable Sat 91 connected by a barrel connector.
LNBs for Sat 110 and 119 still on Sat dish with 2 RG6 cables not connected to any switch or T5 box.
Do you think maybe if I cut those 110 and 119 cable because they could be causing some interference?
I also have another idea which maybe going backwards for another power supply adapter having a cord then a box then a cord to plug into surge bar.
This was found on Amazon.
Hope this no cause T5 rebooting again.

Try it without the surge bar, and the power adapter with the block in middle (cord off each end) I have found are not the best
Also with T5 in server settings turn off the ones not in use.
Are you using a new power adapter 12v 3amp (ones you just got) or a old one
If new then I believe it's not the power adapter, something else is causing it to freeze ?
Yes I am using the new one I asked you about in one of the posts in this thread.
Could it be the manufacturer of the power supply adapter that is causing the freezing or if I took the power supply that came with the Dreamlink T1 and connect it to the T5 because no issue with PVR on the T1 which does not have that block (transformer) between the power cables.
i don't think it's the power adapter doing it, it might even be a heat issue, try this:
If you can, take the top cover off T5 and get a fan blowing air down over HD Module & board while running/recording
see if it still freezes ? Your Module Maybe over heating.
A portable fan, a laptop cooler won't do much from below
I mounted a CPU fan in the top cover of my T4 blowing air down over everything keeping it cool
(No heat issues)
I know I an not that tech savy to be able to connect a CPU fan on the top cover, and how would that fan be powered.
I guess the DL T1 does not have as much overheating issues as the T5 has.
Maybe if I was given instructions on what quiet fan would be needed including tools.
Update: I did a google search and found on another FTA website about DL T5 fan to keep cool.
If a person like me that would not be able to physically install a fan the other is not a portable fan or laptop cooler, but called a muffin fan 120 volt that would blow cool air from the top to keep from overheating.
There is a plug to a wall outlet for power plug and play.
AC Infinity AXIAL LS1238, Quiet Muffin Fan, 120V AC 120mm x 38mm Low Speed, for DIY Cooling Ventilation Exhaust Projects
"TRY" (Experiment for possible Heat issues) take top cover off and place a portable fan next to it
pointing down so it will blow air across the HD Module & Power board etc. while running/recording with T5
and see if it acts up or not. These Boxes are cheaply made with poor electronics, which can cause heat issues
Plus the fact the box is so Small heat has no where to go. Process of elimination to pin point your problem,
Or move on to the next best thing that works ??
It took me a little longer because some other things I had to take care of.
I didn't try the fan over the T5 with the top cover off, but decided to use the muffet fan which runs on its own power non USB I mean.
I remember in 1 post you made in this thread about doing some kind of remod on a T5 connected to the top cover of it that us why I decided to use a muffin which is close to what you have done.
It is a little noisy.... cools off the top of box down to room temperature or more.
Doing a PVR test....it's working no freezing or scrambled....usually stops working 10 to 15 minutes.
PVR still going over 20 minutes has not stopped.
Do you think I should go with another muffin fan which maybe less noisy which would work the same that has adjustable speeds?
Please let me know.
How noisy is the fan when watching TV, does the noise from it over power the TV or
in other words can "YOU" live with it when TV is on.?? Does your HD Module have a Rubber or Metal Heatsink on it ?
Also what you can do, is cut a Hole in top cover (just slightly smaller than fan you use) and fasten the fan to it
blowing down over stuff (with Hole=More air-flow=More cooling) I used a Dremel tool to cut a aprox. 2"-3" hole in my T4 COVER
AND with some tap screws mounted the fan. your Module should have heatsink like this one
Attachment 28161
I am still able to hear the tv when it is plugged in except I unplug the fan when I don't have to record the PVR or to watch it.
The HD module has a rubber heat sink.
The fan is all metal no plastic parts however it is to big to fit inside the T5...inside the top cover.
Mount it on "TOP" of cover That's what I did, sure it doesn't look Great but IT DOES THE JOB NEEDED
Update:
The Muffin Fan so far is working the only issue is that I would have to reboot the box every couple of days because if I want to delete the pvr recording it formats the whole external flash drive.
The next move to make is to go to an SSD external drive and see if there is no issue with that, and if there is the next one would be to use an enclosure with an internal SSD drive to plug in which would would have an external power source.
