He's in pretty deep already bro, but I agree 100%.

This is what I found today when I removed the pan, the curious thing is when I get the transmission to 1st gear I can step on the gas and it will smoke the tires, shift to second and tires do some screaming what is stopping the transmission to go to 1st gear manually or automatically...........hummmmmm here the wires thinner than paper clip but thicker than staplesAttachment 29414
that looks to me to be whats left of a thrust washer or Torrington bearing.
Something that will not allowed the engage 1st gear unless I rev the engine a bit and quickly move shifter to #1? Good thing I started to remove the transmission by removing fluid first......will post photos after the transmission is taken apart........thanks to you all........a transmission rebuild in 2015 ran almost 1,500 miles and was parked until August 2022 that I took it for my personal use, slammed the brakes in no more the 3mph to avoid killing a kid and it ended up in this.......thank God I did see that kid when he ran after his toy ball........TP
Some neighbor told me just remove the overdrive section of the transmission, I am not convinced
Git 'er done bro.I admire your fortitude.

Noof I am no expert on automatic transmission since 2004 but the stationary where the converter goes I don't like it, tomorrow will open the case, I am done for today........ TP
Take a look inside the converter. What does the bushing look like? The part that it runs on is called the support. That's the part that looks badly scored. You have to look a little farther into the snout (the oil pump) to see waht that bearing surface looks like, but the bushing in the front of the converter will tell all.I want you to consider that it is a bad problem, but not likely your first gear issue. You have a lot of stuff going on it seems.
Tomorrow is disassemble time, will take photos of everything, for sure I will replace the converter........TP
Good morning, I could finally removed the output shaft speed sensor and it also has metal parts since the sensor is magnetic, I am still taking it apart Attachment 29423Attachment 29425
P.S. an old timer neighbor told me that what I saw at the converter snout is common, to be worried if it looks shiny like recently but it looks old.....just sharing what he said.....
Yes...that's why I said you have to look deeper into the pump, behind the seal area, as well as the support bushing in the converter. The front part of the converter supports are unfinished, non-contact areas. You want to pull the pump out now to get to the clutches. You may have to slide hammer the pump out to remove it.
Did all that, when I got to the OD unit is where I found from where those metals come from.....Attachment 29426
I removed the first snap ring one that is round that holds the first set of steels and clutch on the OD unit, here is what came out...all done and FUBAR
Attachment 29427Attachment 29428Attachment 29429
P.S. Forgot to mention those are OD clutches
One thing I notice, everything in the case, clutches steels look new, something tells me when this transmission got rebuild they only did the case not the OD unit, I have seen this before.......
Those are TOAST sir.Be sure when you're done to flush the cooler lines & cooler. The converter will be filthy too, but I heard you say you're replacing it,so that's a non-issue.Keep up the good work.
Thanks but don't go anywhere yet, OD piston and everything back looks old.........and I think there are 2 seals missing behind the oil pump.....Attachment 29430Attachment 29431Attachment 29432Attachment 29433Attachment 29434
Tell me I am wrong and I need new glasses.....Attachment 29435
Need more photos of any other section of the transmission? just tell me I will make it happen
Some of the frictions look o.k., but you might as well just get an o/h kit that has all the essentials in it, at this point.Be sure to replace the piston seals in every clutch pack too.You don't wanna do this again.Same applies to the bushings:replace any that look worn.
But the pump has seals? Or I don't see them? I kind of see 2 metal rings but I thought there should be 2 rubber seals........I order a kit that has clutches and steels with gaskets and everything....

Yikes car talk makes me hot lol
Good to see you mbfam, Hope you and K are doing well my friend!!
Hugs...Dee
All Good msfam, Kyara sends her love and hugs....
Awww right back at you Kyara
Miss those days of the aweseome girl packs on fta
Such fun !!
I need new glasses then, all the rebuild kits I find don't mention the clutch and steels that my transmission broke but the one on the link does mention the OD brake clutch and steels that is why I have it in the cart, unless I'm wrong, hope I got the right one.....
Noof, check this kit, sellers says it has the clutches and steels I am looking for

Looks good Turbo, but I would like to see some bushings in there.Examine the thrust washers closely too.Remember to soak the frictions in fresh fluid for a few hours before installation as well.
Bushings photos coming up........

Your going to have to rebush that bro. That thrust washer has seen better days too. You've gone this far:finish it properly.
Do you have a way to compress the springs on the clutch assemblies that have them? You will need to so you can replace the piston seals.I did mine in my press back in the day.
Attachment 29440Attachment 29441Attachment 29442Attachment 29443 with cellphone it's a pita to upload photos.......

When I did the TransGo kit with aluminum 1-2 accumulator I used brand new ATF+4 I collected the fluid for recycling and notice tiny particles that are not magnet, it seems aluminum and I think that is converter internals, anyway I got another converter and gave that one as core......anyway even clutches are good in photo you can see letters on them, all goes new anyway......I got this feeling the OD did not get rebuild, everything looks clean but when I got to the Overdrive Piston dirty, after that piston the clutches (3) and steels that got busted and I am sure when I take the OD unit to the press it will be same, dirty and nothing rebuild. I checked all the bushings we called them same as what crankshaft uses (bearings) but round or some called them "Bronce" all looks replaced.....all that is left to do is opening up the oil pump......thanks let me know if you need more photos, gladly take them and upload them for your input.........TP
OK, I just order the thrust washer kit....

Noof, is this the right one? My transmission is A500/42RE, just want to avoid returning wrong parts via mail, why I don't buy this local? Because the price is not right, I bought the converter locally because it was in the right range..........TPCode:https://www.transmissionpartsdistributors.com/a500-a518-a618-47re-47rh-46re-46rh-42re-48re-a904-transmission-bearing-kit-fits-88/
P.S. all bushing are being replaced, once I start rebuilding something I do it right or best not do anything at all, I don't like to remove transmission a second time because I didn't want to spend a few $
Check the second link, I am sure you replied when I was editing, the reason I asked is because after purchasing the system canceled order with warning of incompatible, but I will email them for those 2 purchases
While those parts arrived I am replacing the crankshaft rear seal and the freeze plug on engine block, I already did the freeze plugs when I removed the engine head but that one, right behind the flywheel, another thing I forgot to mention, the cooler lines where glued with gray silicone and instead of a clip it seems they used wire hanger to lock the lines in place, let me take photo of the damage, I am thinking to replace with flare fittings........TP
Attachment 29448Attachment 29449Attachment 29450Attachment 29451
Call me paranoid or my OCD is kicking in but the reverse band in the middle section is missing a piece? I think there should be an O ring at the end of the overdrive piston housing,,,those are the cooler line fittings I mentioned were glued with Grey silicone.
I am still in the cleaning process not done yet that is why the transmission case looks like that, it needs more scrubbing time......TP
That brake band has a boo boo alright. Is the drum it goes around marked? The band looks like it may be crumbly? In any case...
As far as the o-ring is concerned, you better take a close look at a proper exploded view to make sure. The groove you're pointing at looks more like a snap ring groove to me.
