XRS 4500 Catchup & Timeshift

The pause play rewind on a currently airing program is a little bit of a mixed bag. Technically that is "timeshift", but obviously timeshift is limited to the period that you have been watching. If you don't have timeshift enabled (which I don't) then it switches to catchup (obviously on channels with catch-up) and you can REW the channel you are watching. I always thought you had to wait for program to finish to be able to play it back from catchup, but that is NOT the case.

Thanks for looking at it.

Your explanation on the catchup / timeshift operations was what I was trying to say a few posts ago.

It’s really within the catchup function during the currently playing program that I’m not getting to play.

If I pause and then try and play or skip ahead it just fails out.

With pony I’m able to go back several hours and get it to play. If I stop at any time I is hit or miss wheather it will start again. That’s where I offer see it go to the beginning of the program and try to restart from there.

I paused and unpaused and it goes back to the beginning but I can fast forward after doing that

Pause and unpause on catchup works fine on the P6 (running latest buzztv 6) :) Just like if you were playing a VOD movie.

And if you press REW on live program that is on a catchup channel, it switches to catchup and goes to beginning of the program. Takes a few seconds and then starts catchup playback. You can then FWD through and go to any point (up to current location) and continue from there.

the 4500 doesn't use buzztv 6 ;)
but that does work on buzztv 5
it just takes a bit to kick in

I know.. But just saying.. The Pause/unpause I am sure used to work on BuzzTV 5 perfectly in the past.

I know I used to watch catch-up, then pause for the old man mandatory pee break, and then come back and continue without a hitch. It would not go to the beginning of the segment like it does now.

In my experiences the 4500 doesn’t go or kick in, it just hangs.

@ Emporium ….wrt the P6 running buzz tv 6 as you describe. Is it setup to force TS to usb in that scenario? Or is it playing from the servers catchup? If it’s from the server then it really shows that the servers catchup function is working.

This Really needs to have buzz look at this more closely. Whoever (at buzztv) does the this type of work should be able to see this pretty quickly.

The problem is repeatable and it didn’t do it with previous version before the update.
When a factory reset is done and the box is rolled back to an earlier version , it works fine, until it updates.

Using different apps with catchup, the catchup function works, I have to believe it’s not server related.

This one is in someone else’s hands. Here’s hoping the old unit gets some love.

it only goes back to the beginning if I start a program from epg
if I pause while watching live tv it resumes from where I paused
OP mentioned going back 30-45 minutes or more so I used epg for catchup since it's faster

I was in the on position

Switched to off position, rebooted and tried with A& E and AMC .

Using US Discovery ch in all cases

Tried using catchup on tivimate premium

Wicked & pinkpony server

Catchup worked great. Just as if it was VOD. Pause, play rewind, go back a few hours. Play was prompt and no issues.

Repeated the test using the buzz 4500

Same servers, same channel,

None of the tests using catchup worked. I gave it plenty of time to start but it never played.

@ du would you happen to have a different older unit that you could give this a try on?
