Paris Finished in 1836, L’Arc de Triomphe in Paris has stood at the western tip of les Champs Elysees for nearly 200 years. Here, historic French legends like Napoleon and Victor Hugo were commemorated before burial. Built to honour those who fought in the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, the arch has also seen its share of German, French and Allied troops; victory marches.

Today, the arch stands as tall and glorious as it was the time it was built. But the surroundings look a tad different. The area is a major traffic route where a roundabout connects about a dozen streets. Don’t even think about jaywalking! An underpass will take you right to the foot of the arch. Walk around and admire the detailed carvings, then climb to the top and enjoy the amazing views all around.

Toronto As a relatively young city compared to the old European cities, Toronto became known in the late 1800s for its whiskey production but grew exceptionally in the 1900s with new immigrant groups pre and post-war. Old postcards show Toronto’s relatively humble cityscape in the late 1960s to early 1970s with the Royal York Hotel (the tallest building in Toronto from 1929 to 1931) and Toronto-Dominion Tower, Royal Trust Tower and Commerce Court West.

Toronto Today, Toronto is a bustling metropolis with a skyline that includes the iconic CN Tower - Canada´s proud addition to the 7 Wonders of the Modern world. Ride the glass elevator to the top of the tower for amazing views of the city below. Or rent a kayak and paddle out onto the lake at sunset. The city’s skyscrapers will put on a dazzling show under the copper glow of the setting sun as the light slowly slips away.
