They could be pictures of another planet or the set of a science fiction movie But it is in fact an amazing phenomenon created by accident in the middle of the Nevada Desert. The otherworldly images show Fly Geyser, a little-known attraction described as one of the most beautiful sights in the state.

With the setting sun just beginning to turn the sky pink, a killer whale leaps out of the ocean and soars into the air, spray cascading down in its wake.
It is a magnificent image. Except the whale’s dive has a purpose – the dolphin quivering 15ft below.
These astonishing photographs record the final act of a chase that lasted two hours, and ended with the dolphin trapped in the jaws of the eight-ton orca.
The dolphin was originally part of a small group swimming off the Mexican coast but the others managed to get away, leaving it at the mercy of a whole pod of whales.

WATERSPOUTS: THE RARE NATURAL PHENOMENON CREATED FROM CONDENSATION
Waterspouts form in a similar way to tornadoes but are often weaker than their land counterparts.
The spouts do not suck up water but instead remain just above the sea forming clouds which form into twisting coils.
The water comes from condensation building up between the warm sea-water and the cloud which contains cool, moist air.
Stronger versions can occur from mesocyclones - which are a vortex of air within a convective storm.
While waterspouts often form in the tropics they have been spotted in other areas including Europe, New Zealand, the Great Lakes and Antarctica.
(waterspouts: captured pictures while sailing off the Greek Island of Orthoni, in the Ionian Sea)
