Yup...and absolutely useless unless you live in the tv station you're trying to get.It will work with a cable feed or a QUALITY ota antenna as long as the stations are withinn 50 to 80 miles.Height of antenna is critical as well.Hauppauge makes a similar device that works well depending on where you live.I have 2 of them that are useless to me because I'm over 80 miles from any terrestrial broadcast tower.

I think only the newest high end tv's come with ATSC3.0 tuners.

This is true of the atsc 2.0 tuner & it's standard,but atsc 3.0 has been implemented to make ready for FHD 30fps as well as UHD 30fps as well as AC4 audio...3.0 tuners are just showing up in tv sets now.

out of the 40+ stations I have none are 4k
my 19 year old lg plays 1080 just fine

And it will, but most if not all broadcasts are 720p/1080i, because thats pretty much all atsc 2.0 supports and on ac3 audio.atsc 3.0 is paving the way for 45 braodcasts.

High-definition television (HDTV) in the United States was introduced in 1998 and has since become increasingly popular and dominant in the television market. Hundreds of HD channels are available in millions of homes and businesses both terrestrially and via subscription services such as satellite, cable and IPTV. HDTV has quickly become the standard, with about 85% of all TVs used being HD as of 2018.[1][failed verification] In the US, the 720p and 1080i formats are used for linear channels, while 1080p is available on a limited basis, mainly for pay-per-view and video on demand content. last I read 4k was being tested but I don't remember what countries
I know some friends have bought 8k devices(tv's and such)
IMO that's over kill
reminds me when bev came out with the 6000 but only offered a handful of hd channels...lol

I guess "overkill" will always be a matter of perception, but as long as we are a species on this planet,we will be doomed to attempt to progress.Look at the changes in the last 50 years of home entertainment & communication:it's mind boggling, & shows no sign of slowing down.atsc3.0 will be better than atsc2.0 from that point of view.lol.

but if you wait until technology advances then prices will drop
that has been proven time and time again

Atsc 3 will most likely be encrypted sooner or later.
There are quite a few atsc crypted channels now.

only change I've noticed is in last 15 years is I get 50% more channels since 4 major networks have added more channels like instead of just 7-1 it now goes to 7-5
will keep an eye on it to see if any changes get made

There's alot of side channels now.Last time I looked, one had 5 side channels.My Burlington channel count was 28 hd.Zero here in Markdale....at least ones worth watching.

I get 4 on nbc,2 on cbs,3 on fox and 5 on abc or maybe 6...lol

when it comes to resolution 720,1080,4k and 8k . When does it come a time when you can see the difference anymore. Like most , the older you get the worse your eyes get. I see very little difference now between 1080 and 4k , if it is actually 4k that I'm streaming on a brand new Samsung tv.

I too have aging eyes & in need of a prescription change,but on a good tv, the differences in image quality are stunning between FHD & UHD.I have at least 12 of 40 or so UHD blurays that are so details they are almost 3d in depth perception.It has much to do with the quality of your playback devices.Swan:if you didn't live 2k away, I would bring you over & prove it.lol.
As a reference I compare everything against the "Everest" 4k bluray.It is stunning.The streamed version is not comparable in any way.

On a side note, the fact that 480p tv broadcasts are alive & popular tell me that hd tv isn't available or neccessary to everyone, or it wouldn't exist at all.Not all changes are important to everyone...lol.

as you pointed out, 4k bluray compared to 4k streaming is like comparing apples to oranges,

as for ATSC, 1080 OTA broadcast is still mpeg2 ... IMO better picture quality (fine detail) than anything streamed using mpeg4 ...
