Attention all woodworkers

OK all you woodworkers out there; I need some info on a belt sander.

I picked up a used Ritter R700 60” horizontal belt sander (green frame) for next to nothing at an auction.

Now here is the problem, the belt wont track right, it seems that the idler wheel is out of camber, (toe in toe out) the belt will track up and jam against the top belt guard, after calling Ritter I find out that the adjustment knob I need to use is missing. (This unit does not have a manual, nor is one available from Ritter)

What I need form all you woodworking gurus is info on this machine, anyone have one?

If so could you post some photos of the idler are adjustments, or anyone know someone that may have one and let you take some photos?

I would like to get this up and running as it will save a bunch of time sanding the edges of face frames and other long pieces.

With a good set of photos I can come up with an adjustment device to keep the belt inline.

Mine has the top table for the spindle sander on the motor side, do you have a good photo of the other end where the idler wheel is?

Say those images on google also - maybe ,Terry ,you could contact someone auctioning one of these units and asking them if they can take a few photos ??

That's one heck of a sander - what in the world are you planning to do with it ?

Hi Stan, yah thats a good idea, well its for sanding down a face frame or a long piece that needs to be flat, the sander has a back that is graphite coated to keep the belt from binding and burning.

Makes for a nice quick flat surface, the table is adjustable and you can sand at any angle 90 to 45 degrees to the sander

I looked online and found a few, no one has answered back....

We (flooring mill where I was general manager for 18 years) used to buy a fair amount of equipment at auction. Sometimes online which really means sight unseen. Best buy we ever made was on a Northfield double surfacer. northfieldwoodworking.com/discontinued/360DoubleSurfacer.pdf Got it Got it removed, loaded and delivered for $20K.

Things like missing parts come up fairly often. Machine manufacturer sometimes had the part-sometimes not. Quite often when they did, they wanted an arm and both legs for it. Sometimes we were able to make the part on our own. When we couldn't we'd bring in a local machinist. He used to make jack screws for up/down movement for a moulder for about 1/10th the cost from manufacturer. They were bad to seize from sawdust getting in the threads. Several other parts he made for various machinery were an improvement over the orifinal factory part.

Well no one I asked on-line has sent anything as far as a picture of the idler wheel adjustments, I guess its up to me to fix up something.

Is it pretty old and not supported anymore by the Mfg.?????.. If its missing the adjustment screw for the belt tracking can u improvise???..

Yup it's obsolete and they don’t have any info on it (it's 20 years old or more) I could play around but it would be better if I knew what the adjustment arm/device looked like, the belt will track up and down when running, when it tracks down it comes off, when it tracks up it rubs on the dust hood, I cant get it to track in the center with out the tracking adjustment.

Maybe one day I will see another like this and take a photo or get lucky and make something that works.

if you live anywhere close to alabama i have a huge one belt stroke sander i'd give ya that was built by a furnature company that went out of buisness. but i am afraid if you tried to ship that monster frieght it would cost more than its worth.

Thanks guys, well I found one in Merced, the owner let me look at the adjustment for the tracking, I then whooped up one that worked out just fine, belt tracking is now on track.........LOL


What was wrong was a second adjustment rod was missing, (look at Isaac's photos, thanks Isaac) a short piece of threaded rod fixed it right up
