Being new to IPTV, I recently noticed that there is a 2 minute difference between broadcast and real time. I usually watch NFL games and also keep up with other games through the score app.
Many times I end up "predicting" to my wife what is going to happen;).
Is this normal?
Using "400 mb" cable connection and a tvip 605 box running Android Oreo.

What do you mean "real time" ?? Like you being at the game and watching it on your phone?
There will always be a delay in a live event broadcast, this so the network censors can edit out any possible event (audio or video) that they don't want to put out over the air, something like a naked fan running out on the field, or a UFO landing in the middle of the game.
Also some networks add a few to the delay, this to insert commercial breaks (local and national) if a timeout is called, these can add up on some feeds, and the internet and any feeds to a sports book (like Vegas) are always going to be behind a live event, this to keep anyone betting on a game from getting an upper hand.
Forget the app and game. I'm watching cbc news and the difference between the clock showing on tv and my iphone watch and my wife's phone is exactly 2 minutes. The tv is 2 minutes behind.
Commercial and editorial delays, they add up, and network will sometimes add blank video time to the outgoing feed going to the affiliate stations, this to allow for local commercial insertions.
Also the game or other broadcast event may be bouncing up and down between several satellites and up-link stations, and also through several switch boards, this can add up with the other delays.
The editorial delay would be for events like...What if your local or national weather Girls skirt fell off during a broadcast? The delay will allow the censor to edit that event out of the live stream...Too bad it would be funny.
yes it will be behind as it is being streamed...it has nothing to do with commercials or editing time
If you are comparing to an OTA broadcast, then you can easily be 30 seconds to 2 minutes offset. Don't forget, the sat stream (typical source) is already slightly delayed, then you have the video capturing, the encoding, processing and then re-streaming and you decoding it. All the steps add up.
You will never get OTA timing (real time), no matter what you do, over IPTV. And even OTA is slightly behind, because I remember watching hockey games on OTA channel, and my sister was at the game, and she would text me with a "Goal!!" and I'd see it a few second later (OK OTA was not 2 minutes, but still seconds behind due to all the processing).
Delay is totally normal as they use web sources for News or Sports which is already 30sec or so behind and then they stream it to you that adds some delay. Typically a min delay is common on most services, but 2 mins is a bit too much. There are some services out there with like 5 sec delay. For sports, more than a min delay is not good as scores app would update you quicker than that.
A 2 minute Time Delay is not normal... Can’t speak about the UFO’s tho...
