List of top brands reveals Starbucks has TWICE as much as McDonald's

A cup of Starbucks coffee is packed with more than twice as much caffeine as a cup of McDonald's, according to a breakdown of caffeine content from major brands.

Thrillist compiled data from two sources, the Center for Science in the Public Interest and EnergyFiend.com, to come up with a list of the most caffeinated coffee brands.

Coming out on top as the most jitter-inducing coffee on the market is Death Wish Coffee, with a staggering 54.2 milligrams of caffeine in every fluid ounce of its Joe. (That's about 650 milligrams for a 12-ounce cup).

By comparison, Starbucks has 20.6 milligrams of coffee per fluid ounce, followed by Caribou Coffee (15 milligrams), Dunkin' Donuts (12.7 milligrams), Seattle's Best (10.4 milligrams) and McDonald's (9.1 milligrams).

Higher caffeine levels generally correlate to higher prices. In New York, for example, the cost of a 12-ounce brewed coffee is $1.85 at Starbucks, $1.29 at Dunkin' Donuts and $1 at McDonald's.

Death Wish goes for about $19 for a pound of beans, which is twice as much as most regular coffee

On the company's testimonials page of its website, customers describe feeling like 'Superman' after drinking a cup of Death Wish.

'I’d say one cup of this is comparable to about 5 shots of espresso,' Diedrick Nagle wrote. 'I felt like Superman on steroids. Welp, off to save the world folks!'

Fancier drinks - think lattes and frappucinos - contain less coffee, and therefore have less caffeine than a plain, black cup.

A Starbucks latte, for example, has half the caffeine (about 9.4 milligrams per fluid ounce) of the company's brewed coffee.
