Default CS5000 missing channels since new remote

We got a new remote a while back for the CS5K that we have. it's a generic remote that really sucks.

every once in a while, we press something and loose most of the channel listing. we are stuck with like 20 channels.

If we manually type a channel we know we have works.

If we try a bunch of stuff, then all of a sudden, they all reappear and no issues after, until we click that same combo that makes us loose all the channels.

Thing is, when I try to get them back and do, have no idea what I did, they just come back and it's a PAIN in the ASS.

    Any ideas?

I don't want to reset the whole receiver, as then you have to start with the 8282 again and even more of a pain.

in the old days I would search around for jp1 capable remotes;when you open the battery compartment you can see a 6 pin ide connector. There are forum sites with files you can program in to convert the remote to whatever.
I had comcast remotes that I programmed for coolsat and microyal at the same time.I used to pick them up at rummage sales cheap.

In the past it was shown that you could modify the code for the cs5k to use a different remote, or just have the box use the serial port to tell you what buttons you had pressed. Would you like to try something like that?
