Default Acquiring signal for basic channels

Hi, I'm new on this Forum

Can Coolsat 5000 Platinum be programmed in order to get basic channels when pointing to a specific direction? For example, if I buy a dish that is large enough and I point it to the corresponding direction, I want to make sure that the receiver will get the signal of all basic channels from Canada and Argentina and all the countries in between. I'm currently living in Montréal, Québec, Canada. Do you know what's the minimum dish size that is required for this and whether I can use Coolsat 5000 Platinum or I have to buy another Model? If I have to buy another Coolsat Model, what's the oldest Model I can use? Or do I have to buy a different receiver brand?

Well, I'm not so new and am having trouble figuring out exactly what you are asking. What do you mean by "basic channels"? Any FTA box will get FTA channels of the type it is designed for. The coolsats were built at a time that only had DVB-S signals. Now boxes have to do DVB-S2 as well. Many channels are still DVB-S so the old boxes still get lots of channels assuming that the dish is pointed at a satellite and you have an LNB for the service you are looking to get from the satellite.

I would say look at lyngsat.com or other sat info sites to see what is up there and what you can get.
I think you expect too much.

You can't get Argentinian channels here in North America, you might find some type of programming from Argentina on 97W but not all of them.

To get 97W (look at the link below to see what channels are on that bird) you will need at least a 33" dish and a linear LNB.

    97W channels:
