Default OK more help needed with water heater.

OK, anyone out there know how to adjust the gas flame on a commercial Rheem water heater???

Just had the LP hooked up, and the flame is too yellow, I looked for the air fuel mix adjustment and tried to get it right but it's still too yellow.

The guy from the gas tank company can't touch that part.

There are some adjustments on the valve body but need info before I go in and play with them.

Well I will give this a shot because 2 years ago I did an indirect heater and had issues with adjustment. Mine is a different model but give it a shot.
First and foremost...I know you thought of this but I just googled your heater for adjustment and it came up with a ton of stuff. You will need the exact model to get the proper stuff. That's how I did mine with the air flow to get the proper burn. Mine also has a high/ low setting which I started at 160/140 and over a six month period brought it down to its lowest setting which gave me plenty of hot water. You have to decide how hot you want it and what works best with you. My tank is a 60 gallon crown.
If you still can't get it adjusted correctly send me a pm and I will give you my phone number. I have a friend who installs gas and oil heaters so I can ask him for you. Not sure what brands he does cause he just started doing the gas stuff but he may know what.

Good luck...hope this helps... Better than nothing.

If the flames do not look too large then you might try adjusting the venturi's which control the amount of Oxygen. Too little oxygen and the flames burn yellow and start to soot. There are shields on the burners where gas enters the burner and they can be rotated to allow more oxygen into the burner causing the flame to turn bluer. Did this heater run on natural gas and was then converted to LP?

It's a Rheem commercial water heater right out of the box, but has been sitting for 3 years, I will try and look for the spec's.

Tried adjusting the air/fuel slider thinnnigys but it does nothing, someone said that I may need a secondary fuel regulator, so we will have to wait till after the big feast to see what the gas tech says.

OK found the info on it.
    Code:
    http://www.rheem.com/product/commercial-gas-water-heaters-medium-duty
But it doesnt say anything on how to adjust the gas pressure.

That's what I thought at first, but it was changed over to LP by the supplier when I got it, they had to put a whole different burner assembly in it for LP.

Have you read your inlet pressure of the LP line should be in the 11-14 inches water column.

    Yup thats been checked.

New info, checking on the order from Rheem, it looks like the supplier ordered it as an NG unit, Rheem says that you can't just change the burner assembly (as the supplier did) you have to change the whole thermostat/gas control assembly as well.

The guy at Rheem CS asked if I used a left hand thread adapter to connect to the main LP tank, I said "No" he said that it has the wrong thermostat/ gas valve assembly on it, the one for LP gas has left hand threads on the gas inlet, it has to be ordered from them built as an LP gas unit.

Now I'm stuck as this thing is 3 years after ordering and the supplier is waffling saying that I should have checked it out when I got it.

Looks like a 100 MHP drive by thier shop and a quick push off the tail gate, they will get the message...

I wonder if I can order the correct part directly from Rheem if I'm not a distributor???

My gas valve (Carrier) has an screwdriver adjustment on the body of the valve. I have read some have adjustment are in the center of the on/off valve on the gas valve itself.

My experience has been the blue plastic knobs on the valve indicate Nat. Gas and red knobs LP gas.Can you not remove the valve from the old water tank and install it in the new one?Can you get the natural gas burner back to make the water tank useful to someone and take the bite out of buying a LP Tank?

Yah I saw that on the manufacturers web site....And it looks like I will have to order the valve and the burner assembly as a whole.....Too bad I can't put it back the way it was, but the things 3 years old in the box, it was bought for a standby boiler for under floor solar heating out in the work shop, it's a commercial water heater and is not rated for home use.

So I don't think I can sell it and get a different one.
