    Default Satmex 6 and BVN

I was wondering if anybody had the Dutch channel " BVN" on Satmex 6 in the Strathroy Ontario area. What dish did you use and what settings. I understand BVN is on Ku. Does one type of dish bring it in better than others? How critical is the focal length? Is there an accurate formula for getting the correct focal length?
    Thanks......

You would need to find out if you are inside the foot print for that satellite first.

Look below for an active foot print map for that satellite, select one og the "kU" band beams and see if you within it's foot print, if you are, then click on your location and it will give you an idea of what size dish would be needed to get a good signal on that bird.
    Code:
    http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?norad=29162
    Use the second kU beam.

I use a 39" dish with a linear LNB, it is also motorized so I get 85% of what is up there and visible from my location.

Satmex 6 is a bit glitchy for me and I'm in Eastern Ontario. The Dutch channel BVN scans in for me without any issues but will break up from time to time if it's windy or raining.

Hi , I am trying to set up BVN since the change to Satmex 6 with no luck. I am using a viewsat extreme 2000 which worked great before. I have a 36" dish and I think I am on the mark but getting nothing. I only have Satmex 5 on the menu so I am hoping the latest factory update for viewsat will have Satmex 6, latest old update. any pointers would be appreciated.

Just create a new satellite with the name Eutelsat 113 West as the Satmex satellites have been bought by the Eutelsat conglomerate. You shouldn't have any problems scanning in BVN from your location. Either your dish is out of alignment or your lnb needs to be skewed. Another suggestion would be to get a true fta receiver that is more compatible. Do not expect any updates as Viewsat no longer exists.

I have been looking for a replacement but I haven't seen anything new, unless I am looking in the wrong places. Suggestions for a replacement? My son gave me this one, I am really just looking for a few true FTA channels.

    Thanks

Try an x2 premium. It's inexpensive and an extremely fast blind scan and tuner is quite sensitive. If you can't find one then pm me for more info.
