    Default Kenmore refrigerator Thermal fuse

    Hi,

I have a Kenmore refrigerator model# C646-8067880 Type TFA-16 and the thermal fuse is burnt for my defrost. I contacted Kenmore for a thermal fuse and they say that it's discontinued. There is nothing written on the fuse. Would you happen to know what would be the amperage and the temperature of these fuses? The pointy end of the fuse is yellow if that helps you. Would the colour mean the amperage like a fuse in vehicles? This thermal fuse is for the defrost. Every few months or so I have to shut down the fridge and let it melt down and re start it when it's frost free. I have tested the heating element and the defrost control and they are all good. I have found a electronic shop where I can buy one but I need to know the amperage and the operating temperature of the thermal fuse.

    Thanks
    BuckT

the amperage is about 2.5 when defrosting but my question is why did that fuse blow? you need to look at that first before replacing and burning down your house.

Replacing a fuse with a penny would only let the "SMOKE" out and when you let the smoke out of something electrical it quits working.
So you must send it back in to :GET: the smoke put back in it.,.. right>?
I would break out the Beckman and look at the wiring diagram,,,, bet your Mulion Heater has other problems!
    Really look your timers contacts~

If you are referring to the Klixon that is clamped to a copper loop on the evaporator coil,it terminates defrost or bypasses it if its not needed. You should be looking at a defrost timer in my opinion.

You can also test the Klixon by putting it in another freezer and let it freeze then check for contnuity.

    Hi,
Thanks for you replies. I have contacted Sears repair center and they don't have the thermal fuse and they didn't know the specification for it. I have tested the heater element and the defrost timer and they all seams good. The fuse is blown and I have found a place to buy one or order but I would need the operating temperature and the amperage of the thermal fuse so I could order it.
    Thanks

Can you get a good close up of the fuse?

Or have an electrical schematic of the system?

We may be able to cross it to something.
