Washington, D.C. (March 9, 2010) -- Panasonic will begin selling 3-D HDTVs at roughly 250 Best Buy stores this week with a launch at the Best Buy's Union Square store in New York on Wednesday.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a 50-inch model will cost $2,500, but for $3,000 you can also get a Panasonic 3-D Blu-ray player and shutter glasses.

Att this time, there are no 3-D Blu-ray discs available. Additionally, DIRECTV is not scheduled to begin airing three 3-D channels until this June. But Panasonic is hoping to attract early adopters with splashy demos at retail.

Thanks to a special promotion with Best Buy, Panasonic is slashing the price on its 3-D sets by up to 50 percent. Best Buy is expected to expand the availability of the sets to 900 stores by March 21.

Amazon.com is now selling two Samsung 3-D HDTVs, a 46-inch model and a 55-inch model; the latter model was ranked #119 yesterday in Amazon's best-selling electronics category.
