In December 2014, NagraStar LLC, EchoStar Technologies LLC, and DISH Network L.L.C. commenced a civil action and executed an Anton Piller (civil seizure) order against Binh Dao of Belle River, Ontario, Sean Guthrie of Amherstberg, Ontario, at their respective businesses, Emeryville Electronics/Belle River Satellite and Lasalle Connection, in the Windsor, Ontario, region.

The companies say that Dao and Guthrie were dealers in illegally-modified satellite equipment and subscriptions to internet key sharing (IKS) servers that provided their customers with decryption keys used to steal the US-based satellite television programming services offered by DISH Network.

The execution of the Anton Piller order resulted in the seizure of numerous unlawful DISH Network receivers, piracy equipment and devices, computers and records identifying customers of Dao and Guthrie, their suppliers, and the operators of the IKS servers that they supported.

An injunction was also obtained against Dao and Guthrie restraining them from engaging in satellite television piracy.

Following the execution of the Anton Piller order, the companies added as defendants to the action Kim Dao, the son of Dao, and Keith Ashley, an associate of Dao’s, and amended the claim to allege that Dao’s wife Thi Nhuan Nguyen was also involved in Dao’s satellite piracy business.

This action is another step in the companies’ continuing efforts against satellite television piracy throughout North America.
