Cooper Nemeth, 17, found dead, police say
CBC News
The body of 17-year-old Cooper Nemeth has been found, Winnipeg police have confirmed.
Nemeth's family called off the search for the teen early Sunday as police converged at a home on Bayne Crescent near Tu-Pelo Avenue.
Laresa Sayles, Nemeth's aunt, tweeted the search would not continue and that the family plans to release a statement in the coming days.
Nemeth was last seen on Feb. 14. Since then, hundreds of people have searched for the teen day and night.
On Friday, the Winnipeg Police Service's homicide unit was called in to help. At that time, officers said Nemeth's disappearance was still considered a missing person case.
Following Sayles's tweet on Sunday, social media was flooded with messages from people offering their condolences.
@KodiakAthletics, the Twitter account for the athletics department at River East Collegiate, where Nemeth went to school, tweeted that the teen would be missed, and offered support to students.
There is no word from police on any arrests.
