Seven days ago in Indianapolis, Ryan Dungey and Ken Roczen battled all race long for the 450SX Main Event win, with the result eventually falling in Dungey’s favor.

During Saturday’s day race at The Dome in St. Louis, Missouri, it looked like the fans would be treated to a similar show. However, it all fell apart shortly after the halfway point, when Roczen went down from second and fell behind Husqvarna rider Jason Anderson. Roczen retook second place on the final lap.

Dungey’s win came despite a poor starting position, as a fall in his Heat race sent him through to the Semi. Other riders who suffered worse luck were James Stewart, who was hit by Weston Peick in his heat race and didn’t line up for the Semi, while Jason Anderson, Justin Brayton, Marvin Musquin and Joshua Grant all had reasons to be frustrated after the Main.

Anderson was reportedly upset with Broc Tickle for an incident in the sand section, while Brayton had gone down after being ran off the track by Anderson. Marvin Musquin also went down while riding in the top five, while Joshua Grant placed sixth but received a two-place penalty for jumping under a medical flag. This moved both Eli Tomac and Chad Reed up into seventh and sixth positions respectively - Reed after making his 200th start.

Meanwhile, Malcolm Stewart was lucky to hold on to the 250SX East points lead after a disastrous main event. It all began in the first turn when Stewart was involved in a pile-up before the field ever got to the holeshot line, although he was one of the few involved who was able to keep his bike upright. Jeremy Martin took the holeshot and never looked back. In taking the win, he became the first rider to win two 250SX East main events this season.

However, Stewart’s luck continued to go downhill, as he got stuck in the sand section triggering more drama behind him. Somehow, points leader Aaron Plessinger made it through and was up in third. Stewart went down two more times during the race, but was able to salvage an eighth-place finish, and retains a one-point lead over Plessinger. Plessinger finished second behind Martin, while Heat 1 winner Shane McElrath rounded out the podium.
