Aerate the lawn. Then overseed with a top soil/seed/new lawn fertilizer mix.Keep the lawn moist for 14 days.Ready to cut before you know it.

"dead spots" are very often the sign of grubs so before you go shelling out for seed etc make sure you haven`t got them chomping down the roots. Depending on your location (I see you`re a stinking Vikings fan like my son) the damage to your lawn would have come late last summer in the form of round maybe 12" wet patches of dead lawn. If that is so get some "grub out" or the like and spray to kill them.....................signed a Lions fan( at least I didn`t tell you to spray your entire lawn with Roundup LOL).

Sounds a lot like grub weather....if those spots started in a round form in mid to late summer and spread quick they are most likely grubs eating the roots. Being you`re in the US you can buy Grub Out that attaches to your hose and spray the area maybe 2X. That should do the trick if it`s grubs.

If not............trash the lawn....put down astro turf and paint it Honolulu Blue.

Hope it helps good luck.............BTW grubs are most vulnerable when it`s hot and dry, that`s when come closest to the surface to eat grass roots.....to kill their larvae spray the lawn in June. Read up a little on killing the Japanese beetle or if you have them around where you live....that`s where grubs come from.
