27-year-old Michael Dunlop has done something that has eluded many of the top Isle of Man TT riders for the past several years.

He has become the first rider to break the 17-minute barrier at the Isle of Man TT.

Dunlop became the first race winner at the 2016 Isle of Man TT races on Saturday in the 6-lap Superbike race held on the 37.73-mile Snaefell Mountain Course on a Buildbase BMW. A 3-lap Sidecar TT also took place, which was won by John Holden and Andy Winkle.

Dunlop’s win was the 12th TT victory of his career. His fastest lap, at 16m and 58.25 seconds, saw an average speed of 133.39 mph. It was the fastest lap ever turned at the racetrack.
