    Default which model to get?

The Openbox X5 is hard to find, and also the replacement Z5 model is not readily available. I see a V8S model available is this a good alternative to the X-5?

That would depend on what you want to use it for, if you are thinking of using it for IKS you want be happy with the openbox.

The openbox x5 should do well for that, or the freesat V8.

Like IQ said, it depends what you want from it, there is an OpenBox Z5 Mini that is doing good on DVB S2 and PV, FreeSat is doing OK also the OpenBox V8 Super I heard good things, but again, what are you looking in a receiver?

FreeSat V8 is the new model, the OpenBox X5 had 3 models no longer available, was X5, X5+ and X5 Super, it got replaced by new model Z5 and Z5 is also almost out of the picture, the OpenBox Z5 Mini and the OpenBox V8 Super are the newest models, Some people think is the same but it is not FreeSat V8 OpenBox V8 Super are 2 different receivers.

But they do seem to have pretty much the same stuff inside them. Ali processors, The code looks a little different from what I've seen. Menus look rather similar. I think the remotes are the same--seen a thread of the openbox remote working with freebox v7 and v8 (though you can see three remotes supported in the main code area of the v7 files).

You are correct my friend, it seems the hardware is same.

I would get the Freesat V7 for under $30.00
they are ramping up the support on it.
I took the screen out of the top as it holds the heat in.
