Samuel Reiman

Will Power will start on pole position for Sunday’s Kohler Grand Prix. Sunday’s race marks the Verizon IndyCar Series’ return to the 4-mile Road America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Along with Power, two of the other five drivers in the Fast Six were Team Penske drivers, while Graham Rahal was the only Honda to make it into the final session. Knowing he would be unlikely to challenge for pole, Rahal ran on the black tires during the final session to save a set of reds for Sunday.

While most of the qualifying sessions were completed without incident, a late red flag affected Group 2 qualifying. In the closing minutes of Group 2, a spin by Josef Newgarden - who has been cleared to race following his crash in Texas - caught out a lot of drivers, including Juan Pablo Montoya. However, Montoya was more frustrated with the fact that his first lap had been impeded by the traffic of James Hinchcliffe and Alexander Rossi. Hinchcliffe and Newgarden both lost their two fastest laps and will have to start at the back due to the aforementioned incidents.
