Default How is the channel lineup for 129? Am considering a multi lnb dish.

I've recently moved into a snotty part of Scarborough, my landlord says the local blue hair posse will complain if I have too many dishes, so I'm thinking about buying a dish I see advertised that can apparently bring in 7 satellites, that includes the 5- 82,91, 110, 119, 129 that I want. I haven't phoned the store yet but they might feed me bs anyway so thought I'd pose the question: Will it work, especially for 129?

Where I lived before I had a satellite setup that had 110 & at least half the channels that worked last year were constant under ecm. Is it the same now with all the hd channels on 129? The dish I' planning to get costs $100 & you know, this hobby might come to an end....

honestly iks has been hit hard for months now to the point a lot have just said screw it and it isn't worth the time anymore. If you are expecting dependable tv......especially from 129.....save your money and maybe try iptv no dish required

I would like to see what dish the dude is trying to sell you for a 100 bucks that has 5 lnb's? Those have never worked great in Canada but a 33 or 36 inch movable dish would be much better.....and not cost that much more. Put an Invacom quad lnb on it and your good as gold....but really look into iptv first .....

Kenkell, could you please tell me approx how many hd channels can you still get with 129? I guess your provider is a factor, I had Fishtv & found that 110 was still worth it for me anyway, as about half still worked... pm if you have to. I have just pm'd you the url of the multi lnb, its available at a local store.

Powerfta has been very good for 110, 119, 129. I think about 45-50 HD channels are up on 129 - and some days HD PPVs are up too. Of course, you have to put up with the ECMs every 2 or 3 weeks, but that is not their fault. He's the best Dik guy out there now, and his price is fair.

So, just to complete this thread nicely, with lessons learned:

    - I found I don't need my 30" dish to get 129. THere's a site on the net, I forget it offhand, sorry, that shows the areas a specific satellite can be picked up with a specific size dish in a specific area. Where I am at, Scarborough (East part of Toronto) it can be picked up with an 18" no problem, the same size as the DN500 dish I use for 110/119. I just take out the lnb on the left & hook up to the one on the right that usually is aimed at either 119 or Nimiq 91. The quality is about 80-85, lower than 110/119 but adequate.

    - Aiming for 129 is hard though if like me you have a $10 meter. It seemed pretty hard anyway. In 119's settings I tuned into a tp that both 119 & 129 share. I still managed to get it although my dish is only a foot above the ground! Not many tall buildings in Scarberia

    - Yes there aren't as many hd channels anymore but with Powerfta I get the Science & History channels which makes it worthwhile.

That's the main thing if you are happy with what you are getting for price - then you are golden

I have a good source for 110-119-129 as you have - but to me it is not really worth it IMO - I find I don't really watch it that much anymore. I used to think that was the gold standard but I guess I've moved on just like I did from DTV - that used to be my gold standard.
For picture quality and sports I turn to BEV satellite - it has the best HD on every channel - and every sports channel you can think of - every UFC or boxing match, NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA game and rock solid - no IPTV service has that. I also use IPTV a lot but mostly for their Video on Demand movies nobody can beat them on that.

I think the NagraStar SI guys have done their job and defeated the Dishnet hackers - it just doesn't seem to be worth while anymore - up for a while and then down for 4 or 5 days every month - IMO there are better alternatives.

Yes I have Bev too- not sure offhand who my provider is- it's up almost all the time & I watch it more than DN but so far I watch DN enough for it to be worthwhile. Sure it goes down sometimes, usually for an hour or two on Tuesdays, but the programs are often repeated anyway later in the day/week/month so it's not a biggy for me.

I'm not a big movie fan & also the Wifi where I rent is not that reliable so I avoid iptv, but yes I know, it will gradually replace satellite.
