One could make a very convincing argument on Belichick`s status among the greats even to the "greatest" claim. However the 'cheater" tag will follow any claim. Now let`s face it every coach tries the upper hand in various ways.......Billy at least so it seems got caught....repeatedly. Even his staunch defenders would have to admit to proximity around Belichick and the smoke of cheating can`t always be contrived or imagined. Where there`s smoke there`s fire seems to apply....and there`s certainly a forest fire worth of smoke around Belichick.........which would pose a very good argument from his detractors. We`ll call him the Barry Bonds, Roger Clemons, Sammy Sosa, Mark Maguire of football. For that matter....A-Rod never got caught either.

The kind of guy you love to hate.........
This is pro sports.......winners are forgiven, their deeds ignored as long as they pack their bosses pockets with cash. Belichick is certainly a winner and the Pats send bundles of cash to Kraft and the NFL. No denying the Pats are a great team led by a great QB and a great coach...............they`d win with or without tampering(if they did) would be my guess.
After all it wasn`t the Pats that won the last Super Bowl as much as that idiot Pete Carroll`s surprise play call lost it.

    Everybody cheats ... Think,,
    In grade school we cheat
    in high school we cheat
    in college we cheat
    In university we cheat
    In sports we cheat
    On our girlfriend we cheat
    On our wives we cheat
Threw out our lives we cheat
No I don't like green eggs and meat .... LOL ,,, sam I am

I get a chuckle out of the mention of McGuire, Sosa, Canseco, Bonds etc. and the PED's (witch hunt)

Cheating with PED's is a question of strength which in their case resulted in greater ball travel ... whether the ball traveled to the second level the third level or whether the ball flew out of the ball park.

If the sport was about distance traveled,, then there's an argument to be made of unfair competition enhanced by doping.

PED's make the athlete stronger,, does nothing to enhance the talent needed to SEE and connect a 95 mile/h fastball ,, whether or not those guys were on PED's or not,, those guys ALL had the talent to hit homers, they just wouldn't have traveled the distance.
In other words all those homers would still have been homers.

In the case of Clemens, Pettitte etc. sure they got stronger. At 40 years of age they threw the ball 90 - 95 Miles\h but PED's didn't give them the talent needed to throw strikes, curve balls, fastballs, change ups etc.... first, one needs Major League talent !!

I'll admit that PED's gave those guys longevity in the sport ,, and a few million $$ more in rich contracts,, for without the PED's they would have most probably retired sooner.

You`re exactly right....the Peds didn`t do a lot affecting the BB players mentioned numbers except maybe a few feet on an already out of the park homer. It didn`t help them differentiate a fast ball from a curve etc etc. The point was it was cheating but they didn`t get caught.....they didn`t get caught...so they aren`t cheaters. It`s pro sports......it`s only cheating if you get caught.........pretty much like everything else TLG mentioned.
Circumstantial evidence doomed Hillary Clinton in the public`s eye...........Brady did pretty much the same thing. Brady and Belichick regards of their incredible talent, their countless Super Bowls etc etc etc will always have that "cheaters" cloud over them and that was my only point. Like I mentioned Brady nor Belichick had anything to do with Seattle blowing the Super Bowl last season deflated balls, spying etc or not ....it was Carroll`s deflated brain that handed the Super Bowl to the Pats.
