    Default Network intruder detection

I have a customer that was hit by ransomware, she is now very afraid that someone is watching or lurking her network, she wants a program that will tell her that someone who is not allowed on that network is looking around.

I use "Network Magic" but it's not available for a windows 10 platform, nor is it still around.

So what is needed is some sort of program that she would be able to understand, (She is a blond, and over 60) that would pop up with a warning anytime someone tried to get into her network.

I have told her that all she needs to do is shut the computer off at night, but she forgets sometimes.

Anyone with an idea....Keep it simple......

When you bootup your pc you can go to windows acc cmd prompt and type netstat -ano and it will bring up ip's that are established or listening. On the established it will give you a PID number you can check in task manager. You should see the PID numbers there. If not lookup the ip's with that PID number listed. This could be a good indication that the pc is hacked.

You must remember that this lady is over 60 and a blond, she would not know even how to begin to do that.

Looked at that, still too complicated for her.

If she can't use Snort then she's going to have a hard time finding a program to use. You can check these out and see if she can handle any of these: Suricata, Bro IDS, Prelude OSS, WinPatrol, HitmanPro Alert or Malware Defender. Good Luck.

I wish "Network Magic" was available for windows 10, I can get it to run on my W7 machines but not on W10.

It is so very simple to use, but you can't find it for anything but XP or lower.

And have tried and tried to get it to run (on a new install) on W10, but with no luck, it also wants to be registered, but the web site to do that is long gone

Here is a photo of the program, when an intruder pops in it will warn you, you can then block it.

I wish Cisco would bring it back, it would solve her problems.

Terryl, you can look at WinPatrol or (WinPatroltoGo-portable) both free and about the easist to use and works on Win.-10
Best I can suggest for a (non-computer) person.
Also check out GlassWire a firewall/network monitoring tool

Spiceworks or Total Network Monitor should do the trick for her, and they are not to complicated.
