    Default water softener

bought a repo house , it had an old water softener . i see that the water is rusty looking in the toilet . it isn't staining ,but i need some kind of a system for sure . i will never drink the water cause i love my bottled water. are there any other fellow sat fixers that have water systems ? which ones are good and what should i stay away from ? thank you for your info on this matter if you can help me.

ya there all the same, you might even need the well shocked then go from there

there must be a local water company who sells all the goodies and they will know the area the best. might even have a better set up.

but ya a softner is not enough to pull out the iron. i use to be a industrial water tech lol

its usually you need iron filter to get rid of the iron, then softener for the rest then carbon filter for the smell then ro if you really have money and want clean water.........the first three and the norm.

I would have a water sample tested Lobsterpot, & see what you need to adress.Lots of well water sysems have contaminates that shouldn't even touch your skin...never mind drink. If you're near any farms, ecoli is a concern, ect.

ya you have all kinds of bad water in the states i remember years ago the company was doing a job in clear water Florida

it was for the municipal water system they added a side stream filter system........to remove arsenic

we were only taking out some not all lol they didnt want to pay for that
just take out enough to meet standards not beat standards what a shame

ya and most bottled water is ro water......here we get sprig water i like that better but at the end of the day tap water is still save for us i have the fridge with the ice maker i fill my bottle with ice and water everyday....

Some Home Depot's offer free water testing, and you can look at their systems they offer.

The water here is so full of iron you can walk on it, but I do not like the taste of softened water, so I installed a reverse osmosis system for the kitchen sink, bathrooms and fridge, (I split the output 4 ways) each sink have their own spigots, works great.

Note: you have to change the prefilter and membrane filter quite often due to the excessive iron but it's cheaper then bottled water.(you make your own this way)

Memories...we had a culligan salesman come to our house in Denver and after 2 hours of of BS I went to bed as I had to be at work in a few short hours and we wound up with the whole system plus reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink. Soft water it was but I didn't like it much. So when we moved to NE she just had to have it again so I went online and found a system and plumbed all in myself with PVC and to this day she still has it and likes it. She carries in all the salt it takes herslelf now as we are no longer together but oh well, that's life lol. I suppose it's better but to me water is water lol.

Seeing that the iron filters alone are from $500 to $1200 alone then he is on track, he is charging you some bucks for the install.

Here is some info for you on the filters.

Does the water come out of the tap clear........then after a while turns brown? The you have "clear iron" and you need a chlorination system. Cost 3 to 4 grand ca.
