Guess that is one way to do it. Went a slightly easier route myself. After around 34 yrs I just put'em down.

This method of quiting may require him to wear that thing for a very very long time.....
I actually had to get away from my wife in order to quit 15 yrs ago....it does help to
remove the stress in your life that first month....
