    Default Suggestions to update hardware

I have a 10 footer with existing old c-band and ku lnb and polarotor.
I fired up the old GI receiver and tested an old Houston Tracker. The dish moves, even looks like the lnb cabling is fine.
I'd like to get some opinions if it would be worth my while to sink some bucks into getting it running again.
I've searched the forums. Seems like the info is dated or targeted to european users.

Is power vu in use in the conus? Can I get it working? Concepts (like iks-type subs, find and enter keys like the first vc2 modded boards were done).

If so I would need a receiver. Not especially a cheap one. One with all the features I'd need now or in the future.
And since I already have fta receivers and streaming boxes, concentrating on C band is my interest.
A good LNB. Again, not a cheap one. But not a bank breaker either.

I have an eastern arc iks sub here and it's pretty damned good compared with my 'other' sub.

For C band I understand I may need software to run on a pc to get keys. Correct? Or not?
Or like I do with my ham rig, finding wild feeds.

New hardware and links of how-to would be cool. I'm an experimenter is all.

    Thanks beforehand guys.

Of course I know this. Nevertheless, still fishing for info.
Most C band subjects are covered for European and Asian countries.
So. Anyone who can assist, please pipe in.

All you would need to do is replace the LNB with one that does not use the polarotor (obsolete) and a good "V" box to turn the dish.("V"box controls the linear motor on the BUD via Diseqc commands)(BUD= Big Ugly Dish, 10 footer)

I use an OpenBox with a "V" box to turn the dish, works great on all "C"band satellites I can see from 137W to 55W.

hey terryl I still have polarrotor with chapperall lnb using titanium for control v&h but its crap so I use vbox to move dish. the reason I say titanium is crap after a while it changes polarity have to reboot don't know why.

I would replace the LNB with a new one that uses 13 volt and 18 volt switching, that way you don't need the titanium to control the polarity's.

Some like this would be better, the type you get depends on whats on the dish now.

    Code:
    https://www.thesatelliteshop.net/satellite-lnb-types-cband-lnbs-c-1248_1252.html
There are others, I use the DMSI brand.

thxs I have 2 the platinum I use on my other dish & a geosat as spare after testing the chapperel with chapperel lnb with polarrotor had the highest signal for me. that's the 1 none adjust for in-out.

Great info so far. Not so great I didn't cherish the DC input plug on my laptop and borked the multi layer via. Brand-new-used mainboard and up and running again.

    So, polarotor is obsolete.
I could use the Houston Tracker and keep track of encoder pulses...or use diseqc in a receiver with a Vbox.
LNB...to scan the Clark belt and find sats, tp's, wild feeds, and receive them. It's a bit deeper than the DN LNB's I use.
Decisions....what would be the best one to use?
caretaker is obviously having fun and operational. and so is Terryl
Openbox is said to be a good receiver by many, not so good by others.
Those of you that say "git", or have S.A. comments don't really help. But I appreciate the links to other places.
No need to be arrogant dudes. I asked here in this forum to try to see if getting the c-band dish running again.
Winter is coming and I'll have some time to play around a bit.

Polarotors are not obsolete, but they are old school. If you switch to a LNBF like Terryl has already mentioned, it will automatically switch polarity between H and V. Using a V-box for moving the dish is also easier, as it can be connected to your fta receiver and work via diseqc commands. There are lots of fta channels on C band, but make sure your receiver can do dvb-S2. Just keep reading as there is valuable information to learn, and it takes time to figure it all out. I have been using fta for years, and still do not know everything. The members on this sight are fantastic and will always help you out or steer you in the right direction. This is definitely the best place to be for all your satellite needs.
