you are right it did save a lot of lives, the plane never caught fire, not a whole lot torn off, i have been on some flights where i thought we were going to end up in the dirt, the pilots landed "long" and braked real hard, i know where they are suppose to touch down, and many times we are still to high, pilots anymore depend on auto to much to land the planes, i talked to a pilot and he told me they use gps and auto to do everything, they no longer used the old systems that the faa maintains,
