    Default Losing Signal

    Hi Guys,

After leaving the unit on after a few hours. The picture freezes and I noticed that I lost signal all together. I would have to reboot and then it comes back. Is this from the tuner card? Also I noticed for my OTA channels If I use the built in tuner on the tv I get 99% but if I put it through the SV8000HD It goes down to 60%. So are these two issues related?

Could be hardware and or software. Process of elimination I'm afraid. But seeing two tuners imo they are probably not related. Seen something like that happen but just pushed if off as a glitch. With the age and the fact that some software has been reworked a number of times could be either or nether nor. Just trouble shooting a card/module with this stb could be one of four things. Module it's self, loop cable, ribbon cables and or mainboard/connectors. Guess there could always be some sort power issue as well. Just hope some that may read this later on know to always power off the stb and unplug before going under the hood so to speak. Nothing like getting a tingle while the power is applied. As to the signal meter on some of these stb's you have to take the reading with a grain of salt.

I agree with Noof, try putting a small fan on the top of the unit, or a desk fan blowing at it.

Iif the unit is an old one you could be having power supply cap problems, take a look at the on board power supply, there shold be some little cans, these are the electrolytic caps, they tend to dry out, look for any with domed or bulging tops, these caps are bad and need replacing.

Most likely the HD module or power supply (blown caps) like Terryl has suggested
There is a fellow on Ebay that will fix the power supply, etc. i have had mine done by him, great work
    and fast turn-a-round.
