    Default Calling all electricians

OK all, I'm looking for a dead front for an old GE main 200 amp 20 space meter panel.

Getting into refurbishing an old house, someone has removed the dead front from the main meter panel and done what with it.

I need dimensions or an OEM PDF drawing for this panel.

I have done a drawing for the estimated size needed for this panel, but would like to know the exact sizes.

Replacing this panel would be $2K or more for a new one. (parts and labor)

There is usually a sticker with model# on the inside of the panel. Just order a whole new panel and cover and just use the panel cover. GE crap is pretty cheap. Sometimes you can get a panel cover separately from a supply house.

Like SteveO said, you will need a number before you get anywhere and a picture of the panel will help.
I was in that boat many years ago and spent hours going around to Re-stores and even found a warehouse with a mountain of old panels and light fixtures from demolition company's with no luck.
The winning strategy was I made a little ad with a pic and put it up on the bulletin board at the Electricians union hall and I got a call in 3 days with the exact cover I needed, some electricians save everything they have ever removed.
    Good luck!

Or maybe something like this one: hxxps://www.ebay.com/itm/GE-200A-Indoor-Load-Center/192170796452?epid=851912908&hash=item2cbe45a5a4:g:-t0AAOSwaB5XsoCU:rk:2f:0

You could possibly go to a Tin Bashing Shop, and get one Fabricated to work ?

Nope sorry Auggie those will not work as this is an outdoor panel with the meter socket at the top.

And sorry Steve all stickers are long gone from the box.

And have been trying to find this old of a panel without much luck, it is about 40 years old.

And replacing the panel with a new one would be one big job as it has stucco all around it and is setback into the outside wall, I have a friend with a plasma cutter, I will take my drawing to him and see if we can hack something together if I can't find one to fit.

Yes that is close, but it has to be an old GE load center meter panel or it wont fit.

This is what it looks like.

Thanks for the Pic's the best match I could find was this:hxxps://www.ebay.com/itm/GE-PowerMark-Gold-200A-Meter-Socket-Load-Center-1-Each/113482630270?epid=2254776298&hash=item1a6c17847e:g :jTkAAOSwj5BcRD5r:rk:4f:0

Your best bet would be to get your Plasma guy to "FAB" one as best you can.

Well my guy could not do the job, this due to the small divider strip that goes between the rows of breakers, that divider helps to keep the breaker from moving when you have to activate it.

He did cut me a piece of steel for the panel, I have been out in the shop sizing it down, I may have to use my cut off tool and do the job myself, it would be nice to find someone with a water jet or laser cutter, I would be in business.

And if you look at the bottom drawing you can see why they removed it, there are 3 square D breakers in the panel, if you use those you cant put the dead front back on, it wont fit right.

    More help needed:

OK so I made a new dead front panel for that box, but one problem has popped up, if you look at the attached photo you will see a little angle bracket at the bottom of the box, the new panel hits this bracket, and will not sit flush to the bottom of the breakers.

If anyone has or knows someone with this type of electrical meter box (old style GE) could they take a photo of it and post it here, it would help a great deal, this so I can see what is needed to fix this problem right.

Also note that the bracket also is used for latching the front panel closed, the front of the latch is gone, I will have to fix this also.

Does the front cover plate fit between the two side rail/lips, if so I would just cut that "TAB" off and
Drill 2-holes top and bottom each side and fasten with Self-tap screws ?

Well that's an idea, but I think the bottom of the dead front is bent out to fit in front of the angle bracket, if so I can go to a sheet metal shop and have them bend it out the correct way.

I do have to make a new way to close and latch the front cover, that's why a photo of one that is intact would help.

I'm out here in the boonies, it's hard to find stuff like this out here, if I still lived back in the big city I could find all sorts of places to get this stuff.

A other way to fasten cover, would be to put a long enough bolt through that "TAB" so it sticks out past (drill hole) front
cover when closed, with a Wing Nut or something like that. If your missing the Top hinges, get some small Butterfly
(drawer hinge) hinges and bolt them on for closing cover plate.

So no one has a friend, neighbor, buddy, or other person they know, that has an old GE panel like this one (see photos) that can take a photo of the inside dead front panel for me????

I would sure like to fix this right.
