Bye-bye 3800 Buick.I'm guessing the rag(s)got between the cam &lifters & caused valve interference?Maybe choked the oil pump screen if it ran long enough.
That is the configuration...cam right under.Could have grenaded the timing chain as well.Balance shaft driven from a small gear on the camshaft, which is chain driven. Many things can happen due to a moments stupidity .lol.
Looks like he used a die-grinder & abrasive wheel to clean the mating surfaces:that's a BIG no-no in my shop.

All the talking say its not going to be worth fixing!
Goes to show you ..that not even an engine can get rid of a rag or maybe it is on one
Looks like they used out door house caulking/silicone also.As for using a die grinder i have always used a fine abrasive pad.Just not on aluminum.Never had one come back with a leak.Actually i used a extra fine abrasive pad on the last hemi i did cam and lifters in. It was a mess and hard to clean. That was around Xmas and no leaks. It's been back for 2 services since.First time i ever used them on aluminum.
