I've tested the 622 & 722 VIPs in the past it works
Are you certain you have a 9242 and not a 9200? The 9200 did come with the rom103. 9200’s are obsolete now.
Have a peak at your sys info screen.
I wasn’t aware that bell used 103’s in the 9242. On the south side dish 622 (the Dishnet equivalent of the 9242) did use the rom103 in some of them. That’s how they were compromised. Lower rev 103s could be glitched very easily. It’s my understanding that they (622’s with rom103) were very scarce, and Charlie closed that door by a card swap.
If your saying that you have open rom103 card from the 9242 that was married, then you have all the info to make it work without modifying the rec. Save the bin file. The reason for modding receivers without a rom 103 was because the box keys and sk number was unknown and the card couldn’t be (publicly) opened to retrieve it. The simple solution was the clone IRDs with known info from reciervers that had openable cards. This is the readers digest version of events.
It’s pretty cool if you actually have a genuine 9242 (unmodded) ird with an open rom 103 card that was married to that rec. You would have a genuine unicorn!
This is all just rumours according to my barbers nanny.
I still have a 9242 from when it first came out
it has a card slot but never had a card

There I go assuming that one should know these units need modding, I assumed that his question was in general.......if the oem units could be used............it does seem to me that I was at the time the only one not using fta units
Yea, in bell land that was how all new units went out. Many still running without a card in the slot.
If a bell 9242 went through the refurb process it shipped with a card...but it wasn’t a rom 103. At least I never saw it. Just a FYI, those refurbs had a new card number different from the card Number from the on-board chip. Always made me wonder how they reflashed the tsop to accept a new number? They didn’t pull the chip. Food for thought. But then if you call b3v for a new card do they re issue the same number or do they send a new card with a new (different) number. I’ve never seen a replacement card.
IMHO 9242 best unit bell has ever put out.
Yes, a 622 can become a 9242 and visa versa, but the process isn’t through “flashing”, unless you consider pulling and replacing the bga with a “new” chip that has the other provider on it.
As for connecting up a jtag and reprogramming a vip622 like a 301>310 etc. Or erasure of the boot sector and restreaming to become the other provider...that’s a no go with the vip series. I have a feeling that you know that, so I don’t know why you continue to claim that you’ve done it.
I won’t doubt you If you can show some proof. If it’s easily doable then Im sure there are many people who would like to now change their vip622 into a 9242.
I’m sill waiting to hear back from the original poster regarding a 9242 with a rom 103....
