    Default Swm Dish setup questions

I hope I'm posting in the proper area. My neighbor has a h24-700 Directv receiver and what seems to be a swm single lnb with one output and a 21 Volt Power swm Inserter. He only wants to run one receiver. Can I eliminate the power inserter and just go direct from the receiver to the lnb? I notice when I hook up a meter to the back of the receiver, there's no power. Shouldn't there be 13v?

You need the power inserter, receiver alone will not work.
As for voltage from the receiver, there should be a dc voltage present. I've never measured the voltage, I always carry a speaker from a cable toner that will give a tone when voltage is present on a cable.

From my brief search and if it is the one I'm thinking about it is not compatible with fta stb's. Lnb is setup for three slots and has a built in switch which is dtv and receiver specific.

Hey Foresight. It's being used for actual Direct tv.

Ok. Thanks for the reply fn95. What's happening is when I hook up my meter the signal goes to the end and no matter where I point the dish it just stays maxed out. He had it all working then one day he lost the signal. There's no signal in the direct tv menu either.

To align a DTV dish with a satellite meter, the meter needs to be one approved or setup to use on a DTV system, a cheap one will not work, all it will do is peg out like your seeing on your meter.

To use a standard satellite meter on a DTV system you could use this item, but it will only work on a legacy system.
    Code:
    https://www.amazon.com/DIRECTV-Alignment-Locator-ACCUTRAC-DIGISAT/dp/B00M4D9AQQ

I would test the DC power inserter with a DVM first, this to see if it has gone bad, you should see about +21 volts DC.

And there will be no DC output from the DTV OEM receiver as the DC power inserter provides all that is needed.

I would first re-align the dish for the correct satellites by going to dishpointer.com and selecting the correct set of satellites, (three choices) this will give you a line showing the correct direction for the dish.

I would also check the system for a switch somewhere inline, this too may have gone bad.

So I guess what your saying is I couldn't even change to a standard DIRECTV Dual LNB being there's no 13v power that comes out of those particular receivers?

It could be the problem is the receiver. Did you check the voltage at the end of the cable near the dish? Or with a short cable connected to receiver?

Yes you can as long as the DC power inserter is inline between the LNB and the receiver.

Can you post a photo of the dish and LNB your looking at?

    It looks like this
I went into settings and set the dish setup to multi switch and unplugged the power inserter. I was then able to put a regular lnb on for testing. Signal strength was 100% on sat 101 according to the receiver menu. When I put the swm lnb back on nada zero. Frustrating.

Thx for the input Dishuser. I plugged the power inserter back in when I put the original swm lnb back on the dish. I even tested the inserter. 21v. Also 21v at the end of the cable at the dish.

What message is the receiver displaying. 775 would mean no connection between receiver and dish, 771 means no signal, though I've seen a faulty receiver display 771 error.
Try changing switch type in menu to multiswitch then check for voltage.

Just keep in mind that if you are trying to get this newer equipment to work with an stb most if not all have age on them. Point being that the files have not been updated for the most part since 2015 or earlier. Think the exception being linkbox. But that is no reason to try and see if it will or look for a work around within the stb. Nice pans for true fta as square tube linear and circular lnbs work on the lnb arm with these type dishes and lock in place. Nice elevation adjustments as well plus they skew. Lot of possibilities with that dish but may not be so much with that type lnb.

No Foresight. I have an actual Directv receiver I'm setting up. Not FTA.
