Basic Buzz for TV Only?

I have only used the 2GB Ram boxes but wondered if someone was only using the basic box (3000M) for tv only, no apps, would it work well enough for someone to use if they only wanted it for live tv and movies? Does it get the updates as the 2GB Ram boxes also? Just trying to save a few bucks for some people wanting to try the buzz box.

the 3000m is a reflashed mygica
another good choice if on a budget is the boomerang mate It uses the buzz software and runs nice

I even use kodi(build) on my basic
