Are you able to record with the T5? I assume you would have to use an external HDD if even possible.

Yes with usb drive or a self-powered external HDD works better

the hd recorded better than the t5 One main complaint with the recording was playback was if you ff then it would go out of sync
you can do timer record or from guide

So I can just try an external HDD I have here and see if it works. Just have to remember the FF and out of sync. Will the box have to be on all the time or will it on/off itself when a recording is set? What do I format the drive to?
This is for my neighbor as he just lost the subbed service and I got him one of the T5's. Only thing he misses is the PVR part.

The HDD will need to be formatted to fat32
