    Default Audio distortion Recording

Does anyone have any idea why the sound on recordings is distorted? recording on a formatted Fat32 1TB WD hard drive.Tried switching from Dolby Digital to PCM with no change in sound playback.Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would say the sound is from your sonicview and not the HHD , have you tried another HHD ?

It's worth a shot.I would just use a usb thumb drive,32gb or less for test purposes.Format it using the format utility on the SV.If it doesn't recognized the thumb drive, format in windows to fat32/default allocation size.

A hard drive or thumb drive will only record the digital information sent to it from the receiver, if the program audio is distorted going into the receivers A to D or digital encoder, or somehow distorted by the internal recording software, then the playback audio will be distorted coming out.

The hard drive/thumb drive its self can't distort the audio as it's encoded in binary, does this happen on all recorded programs or just one or two? If all then I would say it's something in the receivers recording software, a bug maybe.

How are you feeding the audio to the Sony? Optical, coaxial, HDMI or L/R analog?

What is the model number of the Sony?

HIGHLY unlikely both hdds & stbs are having the same issue.Look at the common denominators now, such as the home theater receiver.Make sure the input is set to auto, or ac3.

While recording, any glitch in the whole system from IP, server, weather, HDDs etc. will put things out a wack (recording issues etc.)
That's why I never bothered with recording anything, to many screw-ups.

You may have a second optical input on that receiver, try that one and see if it's also distorted, if so then you may need a new Sony.

I would get one (if you do) with HDMI switching inputs.

Quick fix for audio distortion this worked for me for recording hd channels. Go to A/V settings and change the HD OSD Type to normal. Then save. Also for hd channels choppy picture. Go to A/V Settings and change HDMI Video back and forth 1080i tp 720p until it is clear. Hope this helps. Works for me
