I'm looking at IPvanish website an it say unlimited devices. Anyone know if that's on the same network (IP) or can you use it on different IP's? Meaning if I pay for unlimited devices I can use it on many Ip's, kind of doubt it...
So what would be a few 5-10 users?
I have it between 5 users total with about 2 or 3 devices each. Some of those travel quite a bit though. I have my sister who has it on 3 firesticks, and at least one of them goes between 3 different states every few weeks, and then comes up to Canada, and then goes to Europe for a few months.
For myself, is the only one where I have more than 2 or 3, since I have it on everyone's phone in the family (so that's 4 connections - but they go on and off as needed), and then I have it on 3 media boxes (at max only 2 of those are connected at any one time), and then I have one profile on my pfsense router/firewall, so I can put stuff like my NAS and some PCs behind VPN if needed.
Like DU said, don't get greedy and they most probably won't say much. You exaggerate and they may start asking questions.
I even have a second paid VPN service, which is unlimited, but 5 devices max. And that one I have on some very specific purpose built devices.
That doesn't include my 2 free protonVPN accounts also
And when I am on the road, I have my own VPN server on my home firewall, so I can connect direct back to my home via VPN, to be able to make it look like I am connecting from home. And that is also the only way to access my NAS servers remotely, and even my security camera feeds, since I prefer to minimize what is exposed.
My greedy ass was thinking sky's the limit when reading "unlimited devices" for IPVanish. haha
I'll probably stick with starting up a new free ProtonVPN account for each new subscriber I get.
By the way, having a VPN running for Wicked has been a gamechanger.
Without a VPN, those 4K channels won't load for me.
Watched the Monday Night Football game in 4K HDR earlier and the picture quality was gorgeous.
I wonder if we should create a VPN section on it own for discussion?
I have in the passed put custom firmware on routers that allow for a VPN in the router covering a whole home.
Plus all the other thing to talk about on this subject. If one of the mods see this please consider a VPN section.

oh and modding a router won't fly here
years ago I posted how to modify one to use with an atmega for iks and eventually that whole section disappeared...lol

But configuring a router for VPN is legit. And honestly, many stock firmware already include VPN clients and servers already as part of the basic firmware. Sure some 3rd party firmware, like Merlin, dd-wrt, tomato and derivatives have additional flexibility, but nothing that I would consider as "hacking"
On my router (pfSense based) I have setup multiple VPN tunnels then use policy gateway routing to send traffic to the specific tunnels depending on which endpoint server I want certain machines (containers) to go through. It was more of a learning experience than anything else, but it has it's uses.
