Kudos to your friend for being savvy enough to pick up that gaming rig,
complete with a GeForce 3070, for around 2200 bucks. That's some clever
thinking and investing, all in one go.
    Those GeForce 3070 cards –
they're like the golden ticket of the tech world. Hunting one down can
feel a bit like chasing a unicorn through a digital forest.

That was 2 and a 1/2 yrs ago. I would imagine the crypto has lost all its value since, such as bitcoin.

Crypto mining, especially with GPUs like the Nvidia GeForce 3070, can be a pretty lucrative gig if you have the right setup.
As for finding the 3070 cards, yeah, they're in high demand for mining and gaming, so they can be hard to come by. It's all about timing and luck, really.
If you're thinking about getting into mining, just make sure to do your research and calculate the costs versus potential profits. It can be a fun hobby and a way to earn some extra cash, but it's also important to consider things like electricity costs and the current state of the market.
But if you're interested in mining, ASIC Compare is a useful tool for checking out hardware profitability. It's helped me out when I was setting up my mining rig.
