the LNBs are equal distance from the center of the dish, the focal points are equal distance from the center of the dish

the satellites are 9 degrees apart inorder to get both satellites you need to point at the center of them

the skew simply puts the dish and LNBs in line with the 2 satellites, when you adjust the skew you are not changing the Azimuth you are simply rotating the dish
well I only move mine 3 degrees after locking into 91 and then skew for 82 and get both in high 90's so splitting it would make one weak in signal

    you missed the point

if you locked in on 91 with the correct LNB then you unwittingly pointed it exactly in the middle of the 2 satellites there is no other way to lock in on the signal

if you then moved it 3 degrees you would have completely lost all satellite signal

    I don't split the difference between 82 and 91
if I split it the 82 signal isn't as strong as when I only move it 3 degrees

like I said, you unwittingly aimed the dish exactly in between the 2 satellites, there is no other way lock in 91 with a dish500 dual

go to dishpointer and see what the azimuth setting is for you area for a single lnb one satellite system

then check the azimuth for a dual from you location, then maybe you will understand the difference...

I suspect if dcapper answers the above posts we will be able to give him an answer to why he's locked in on 82 but can't get a usuable signal

It ended up that the sat finder is more sensitive and the signal wasn't quite as strong as the receiver. We pulled off the Dish500 dish and installed a 36" dish. 82 is working perfect now. Thanks for all the help.
