    Default Pointing Bell 82 problems

I have a GTMedia V8 finder. I know it won't find the turbo 8psk signal but transponder 12443 is standard definition and the signal is 85% on the finder. I scanned channels on the meter and the channels on Lyngsat showed up. When I connect it to the Belll PVR, it doesn't find the signal. I swapped the LNB with the 91 one. I swapped ports on the SW21 switch. I even ran the 82 cable directly into the receiver. There is some trees but I was pretty sure I was pointing above them. Any ideas?

did you run a check switch test?

Running two separate dish lnbs into a sw21 switch on a dish500 dish. My pointer sees the standard def transponder but the receiver doesn’t see any signal. I even ran the cable directly into the receiver. This receiver was working perfectly at the lake and I brought it home to hook it up there. I have pretty much swapped everything. Is the hd signal a lot weaker than the sd one? I’m wondering if I have some tree problems.

    Try the following program,
    Code:
    https://www.dishpointer.com/
just enter your location then go to the multi LNB setup, this will load a map with your location, zoom in as close as you can, move the marker to the location where you have the dish mounted, this will then give you a line looking out at the satellites.

Remember your looking at two satellites, if your using one dish with two LNB's on it you will have to be pointing in-between the two, so for the 82/91 satellites the dish will be pointing at 86.5 degrees, pointing directly at one or the other satellite will get poor results on the other.

Remember the signal hitting the dish crosses over to LNB it doesn't come straight to LNB

    not quite
    you're forgetting skew
where I live skew is very minimal so splitting the difference will get poor result

If you can get a old Bell/dish receiver, they are better suited to finding & locking on to 91/82 sats.
    Easier to setup with.

The skew seems to be dead on. It’s so weird. I have a bell sd receiver I can use but the sat meter is so cool cause nobody is yelling out the window. I’m convinced the hd signal is weaker than the hd one. I’m using 12443 for 82 and it’s getting 85 percent. I scanned channels on the meter and the channels on lyngsat matched my meter. Does that make sense?

ya I always used a 3100 for that
one time I preset skew and went outside and mounted dish
it was at 98% when I went inside to check so I sat down and watched some tv
a week later it got really windy and I lost signal
I was so happy about getting 98% first try I forgot to back out and tighten dish to mast...lol

I wouldn't rely on Lyngsat not always up to date, setup on 91 first and locked in with 75% or better then skew/rotate the dish
for 82, if you are standing behind the dish looking out over the LNB's 91 will be on the LEFT & 82 on the right sitting a little
higher than the 91 LNB, once you have both locked in, then it's a matter of tweaking the dish for Maximum signal strength
91 should be the dominate LNB, So you may need to rob a little signal from it for 82 to come in higher
aim for at least 75% signal on both or better if you can.

    I agree
found it out west to have to sacrifice one over the other
    here it's high on both

You said you're using a pvr receiver. Are you running 2 cables from dish? Or are you trying to use a DPP seperator? If so, it won't work with legacy lnb's. You would need a DPP twin or quad lnb.

Terryl is right and you can easily verify that by using dishpointer.

the LNBs are equal distance from the center of the dish, the focal points are equal distance from the center of the dish

the satellites are 9 degrees apart inorder to get both satellites you need to point at the center of them

the skew simply puts the dish and LNBs in line with the 2 satellites, when you adjust the skew you are not changing the Azimuth you are simply rotating the dish
