Noof, quick question/consult.....I was given many supposedly upgrades to the overdrive brake clutch pack, my A500/42RE has only 3 clutches steels in between and at both ends a pressure plate, one thicker than the other, I was suggested to remove one of the pressure plate and add more clutches and steels and obviously measure the clearance between this pack the spacer (selective, I have 3 different sizes) and Torrington bearing........I can go by the book on this but I prefer to hear what you think on this "upgrade".....I was suggested to do illustration #4 or at least #3

If you're removing the steel that's adjacent to the apply piston in the clutch, don't do it.What you gain in friction area, you lose in clutch strength. The thick steel is there for a good reason.I would stick to the factory allocation. After all, it came with that clutch configuration & worked well for some time. You do this build right & it will outlast your Jeep.

The Overdrive is fully assembled, the overdrive brake clutch pressure plate and reaction plate were damaged my friend with a lathe fixed both surfaces and this is what he did, from both plates he took from the surfaces enough to fit one clutch and one plate, I checked the clearance used the spacer fix from sonnax, now I am assembling the case, both planetary are installed, I am going to recheck clearance on the drums as specified in the ATSG book before installing them in the case..........TP
