Concentrate on the probable causes related to 1st gear clutching. The broken accumulator spring with only cause harsh shifting fot the associated gear.Only effect it could have otherwise would be pices of the spring, or the wear it can cause, to get where it doesn't belong.Look carefully at 1st gear clutch seals, piston, check ball, ect.

Agreed, I ordered the repair kit mentioned in the jr. shift kit manual, it has everything to fix the problem I have that starts in 2nd gear.....will report and upload photos when it arrives..........TP

Sorry....I thought your initial problem was lack of first.

Exactly it goes to 2nd gear when I move the shift lever to D or to 1, the only way it actually goes into first gear is if I rev the engine 1,200rpm for 10 seconds in neutral then move lever to 1 then it applies 1st gear,
    Code:
    https://www.dodgedurango.net/threads/diy-46re-transgo-jr-shift-kit-install.17196/#lg=thread-17196&slide=18
I took apart the VB just like the photos in that link, all good so far the only broken thing I found was the 3-4 accumulator spring but the shift kit had the spring

All the same, I removed the TCM, disconnected the electronic plug to the transmission and still it will only go to first gear if I rev the engine a bit and quickly moved shift lever to #1, the problem is not electronic, it's in the hydraulic system, now is removing transmission from the jeep take it apart and find out what broke when I slammed the brakes......thanks to you all..........where to look now inside the transmission?...............TP

Sorry to hear it Turbo, but you're gona get dirty now.
If you're going to all the trouble to re & re/disassemble it, check EVERYTHING bro.Pay particular attention to the clutch pack for 1st gear.Take the clutches apart to inspect the frictions as well as the seals.

when I shredded the clutch pack on my 3 spd hiway shift tranny it was only $110 for the clutch but about $1,600 to install balanced...lol
it was either pay up or keep on taking chances

This is what I found today when I removed the pan, the curious thing is when I get the transmission to 1st gear I can step on the gas and it will smoke the tires, shift to second and tires do some screaming what is stopping the transmission to go to 1st gear manually or automatically...........hummmmmm here the wires thinner than paper clip but thicker than staples20230121_111846.jpg

Something that will not allowed the engage 1st gear unless I rev the engine a bit and quickly move shifter to #1? Good thing I started to remove the transmission by removing fluid first......will post photos after the transmission is taken apart........thanks to you all........a transmission rebuild in 2015 ran almost 1,500 miles and was parked until August 2022 that I took it for my personal use, slammed the brakes in no more the 3mph to avoid killing a kid and it ended up in this.......thank God I did see that kid when he ran after his toy ball........TP
Some neighbor told me just remove the overdrive section of the transmission, I am not convinced
