    Default Brand-new Sonicview8000HD Captain

Hello folks: I have been given a new-in-the-box Sonicview 8000HD by a neighbour who is downsizing to move to an assistant-living residence. He bought this several years ago and was intimidated by the instruction manual and tossed it in a closet.

I have been reading various sections on the Sonicview8000 and it would appear that it is now basically a door-stop. I note various references to IHUBs, dongles, etc. that are as scarce as the proverbial hen's teeth. I was going to consider to use it for a "back-up" set but am now not sure. I am handy with a VOM and replacing PC board components (probably not a problem as it has not been used unless caps, etc. have suffered the ravages of old age.

Any advice from current or former Sonicview users please???

    Thanks

Yes the SV8000HD is Old as the Hills, and support has died a long time ago, but is "STILL USABLE" with correct software
and the use of a Dongle/Ethernet Hub, you will most likely need a HD Board if wanting HD Channels (91/82 sats.)
the picture Quality by some/most is not the best compared to the Dreamlink's, But one nice feature the SV8000 has
is a ATSC tuner for Over-The-Air HD Channels. If you plan on using it & this goes with any Fta receiver/Box you use
is that you should have cooling measures in-place (fans) to keep the components inside the Box from Over-Heating

If you are still interested in getting it going etc. (Hardware) give me a P.M. I maybe able to help on that.

Thank you for the reply to my query auggie. Appreciate it. I'm not certain what I need to bring this unit back to life; I am not concerned with HD and am happy with SD on 91. I shall send you a note via P.M.

    Five year warranty still remaining...maybe.
