    Default Garage door opener Problem.

Hello guys, sorry if I am posting wrong section but I didn't find where...........
For more than 4 years I installed in my Mom's house a garage door opener but here in Puerto Rico because of the temp we don't use those door that goes UP to open and down to close, we use open gate so wind can go threw and refresh the house, so the garage if you stand in front of it half opens out the other half also, just like a book, so what the problem? The problem is that the motor opens a closes the gate no problem but it was design to pull for open and push for close, because of the design we have pull for close and push to open, so if the sensor detects some thing in the middle instead of opening by pulling back it really closes, Someone told me I have to invert the polarity of the motor, it has being done, so I took the cover of the motor and found motor has 3 wires, 1 white, 1 red connected to capacitor and black is the 3rd I believe, so now I am lost how to invert the polarity! do you guys know how to invert this???????????????Thanks in advance TURBO.
    Garage opener Model number is
    Model 139.53910D Craftsman 1/2 HP.

It's an AC motor you cant reverse it by running the electricity the other direction as with AC it goes both ways all the time, you need a DC motor to do that.

You could reverse the gears if it had some, or put a 1/2 twist in the belt this would reverse the directions.

It has a chain like bicycles, I completely understand what you say but at sears they told me it can be reverse, Tomorrow I'll take some photos of the thingy without the cover so you can see the plastic gears and more.
Something I just remember, he said to find the wires that have the power to move the motor and identify wish are the ones, then one that makes the motor rotate left and wish makes it rotate right, those 2 are the one to invert but I am wayyyyyyyyyyy to afraid to check that with the power connected to electricity.
    Thanks Terryl

Lol I did google before posting but nothing about reversing polarity, I guess all garage doors in USA are the same type and none have what we use down here, ty

Let me tell you, it works flawlessly for a cheap unit, it can get cheaper then that one, but I wish to make it work, the sensors does it's job and if I walk in front of the sensor it does the job but here pulling up is not opening it is actually closing, lol tomorrow I'll figure out how to upload a video, just for the fun of learning and to show you the motor inside, maybe by you looking inside might know and tell me what gear I can flip and don't have to reverse polarity.

I was checking the motor and if I flip the gears it will do the same thing, it will nor reverse rotation. Now I was watching the cables (wires) of the motor and I made 1 mistake, it was not red white and black, it really is white red and blue, White is connected directly to the wall outlet, red is connected to capacitor with another red that goes to the board (computer I call it) blue is connected to the other side of the capacitor and to the board (computer) this is what I think makes the motor rotate left and right.

I think you have to invert the motor itself......not the wires.....

This model I have it is not made by Sears it is a 100% Chamberlain, my sister has a chamberlain and when I bought this Craftsman for my mom I had to take the cover off of my sister's chamberlain and it was the same thing, the cover is painted to gray and they paint Craftsman name on it.

Thanks NP, I talked again to sears guys and they gave me phone number of the guy that reverse the polarity of this motors, they guy said if a wire flip thing and he charges 100$ so I say ty but no ty. lol

Logic tells me if the motor rotates left and then right, I have to find wish cable makes it left and wish right and flip them.

I made this so you guys have an idea of the motor wiring, plz don't laugh so hard I never tried this before.

I was thinking the red and blue wires are the ones that make the motor go left and right, but I need some one that knows electricity that can tell what are those 2 wires for, I guess white is the wire called (common)
Sorry guys I forgot to take photo of the gate.

I would be guessing the red and blue also.....but.....switch them before or after the capacitor is the question?.......

Just checked with a service tech I know, he says that the motor has dual windings, this is so it can be reversed, the red and blue wires are the ones that control the direction, the white wire is the neutral, there is a reversing switch that tells the motor that there is too big a load or something in the way and causes the motor to stop then go the other way, this is the one you need to look at if you want it to go the opposite direction then normal when it hits an object.

I wish I had a schematic of the opener, it would tell me what wires to switch.
