    Subscription and FTA Satellite System

A Subscription and a FTA Satellite System can and will work together quite well. However there are a few thing to keep in mind when designing your system.

Switching – You need to keep in mind that the common DiSEqC switches & 22KHz switches do NOT work with Sub receivers. Likewise there are some switches that do NOT work with FTA receivers. (Example: The SW44 switch does not work very well with nfusion receivers)
Legacy LNBs - With legacy or standard LNBs and a Sub Box, the SW21 switch, SW44 and 3x4 or 3x8 multiswitches are the common ones and work well. On the FTA side when it comes to legacy or standard LNBs, the above ones listed as well as the 22KHz and the DiSEqC switches are the common ones. A good practice when designing your system is to place 3x4 or 3x8 multiswitches on the sub LNBs there by isolating or separating to feeds to your FTA receivers and the Sub receivers.
DP/DPP LNBs – Most FTA receivers work with DP34, DPP44, and some with DPP33 switches. Also some of the switches listed above for legacy LNBs( SW21 & 22KHz switches) and in one case with the SV360Elite receiver the DPP Seperater will work as well. Using a Sub receiver with FTA receivers has an advantage as you can place a Sub Box on the power inserter of the DP34 & DPP44 switches. As those FTAers know the DishPro LNBs are power hogs and most FTA receivers can not power them alone.

Combining Legacy and Standard LNBs – As Legacy and Standard LNBs in most, if not all ways, are essentially the same – so combining these LNBs is realitively easy. Keep in mind the switching rules previously stated. Not to use the 22KHz side of those switches for Subscription LNBs and not to use DiSEqC switches with the Sub LNBs as well. This is where the 3x4 or 3x8 multiswitches come in handy to isolate those feeds to the Sub receivers.
Combining DishPro and Standard LNBs – The common way to combine DP/DPP LNBs or there switches with Standard FTA LNBs is to use the SW21 switch or the 22KHz switch. Remembering to place the DP/DPP side on the 0KHz side of the 22KHz switch.

Grounding – Most Dishes installed by installers do NOT ground the provider equipment. It is very important that all dishes, cables(using 2.5GHz ground blocks), and especially switches are grounded to an earth ground.

Here are some examples below of switch configurations:
