    Default Snowmobile engine

Hello guys, wondering what cooling system snowmobile engines use. Is it air cooled? Thanks in advance TURBO.

Older snowmobiles were air cooled - Today, some sleds are fan cooled but most or all of the higher performance sleds are liquid cooled utilizing tubes that the coolant is pumped through built right into the tunnel - they rely on snow being thrown up by the track onto the tubes under the tunnel for the heat transfer -hope this helps.

Indeed it helps, I am planning to use a 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine to make some sort of a go cart (bigger size of course) for entertainment like an ATV but custom made for me, I once was studying to use a Jet ski but those have water cooled engines and the way it is cooled cannot be modify for a terrain vehicle, but air cooled or water cooled that has a closed cooled system like a regular car it will be easier to adapt to what I want.
Already have the "go cart" on drawing complete with suspension, steering, brakes, etc. etc.

Indeed my good friend indeed I'll love the output on those but those have an internal tranny, I need a plain engine I manage the speed box if I use one..............thanks.

You could just pack it with snow and use the snowmobile engine.....It would go faster as the snow melts.

Speaking of snow, I don’t know how much HP you need but an old snow blower engine would work nicely...

Ummm arent most snowblowers 4 stroke??
I like the pack it with snow Idea, maybe even add an icemaker and grinder to the cart.. Mobile snow factory..LOL

Turbo why ot use the built in tranny and chain drive the cart?? You can have a lot off fun playing with the sprocket sizes... Ohh the fun I had downsizing the front sprockets on my old honda 750 four... Saved me a lot of front tires...LOL

    Default closed system

Most modern snowmobiles use liquid cooling similar to a car. These are closed systems that can easily be adapted to a radiator and fan set up similar to a ATV or Quad.
The earlier fan cooling was adequate in winter however may not be enough in warmer weather. These had a belt driven fan that blows air over the cylinder head.
There are also free air engines which depend soley on forward motion to get air to the engine cooling fins sinilar to some motorcycles. These are least efficient and tend to loose power when hot.

Try to use the belt drive system if you can these are the most efficient transmissions in the world if set up properly. Simple to operate just hit the throttle and go!!

And if you live in snow country it will double as a snow blower/melter.

When i was younger we put a Yamaha IT 200 enduro 2 stroke in a cart frame and hooked up a clutch pedal and a shifter - the thing was completely insane and anytime we took it out of first gear it was uncontrollable - my suggestion would be to find a 500 rotax liquid (bulletproof) and rig up some kind of radiator fan system - and if you can utilize the clutch and belt that would be the way to go - btw if you can get to southern ontario, i have a Yamaha twin fan cooled snowmobile engine complete with clutch that you can have for free - I'm not a Yamaha guy but I think I looked it up and it was a mid 90's 470 or 570 twin- I found it lying in my road last winter - probably fell off a trailer - anyway it's not seized and it's yours if you can get here - reminds me of my misspent youth lol
