    Default OpenStreetMaps

OpenStreetMaps.org is a free and public maps that you can download and convert to many maps for many GPS units.

It is also a project for those GPS users that would love to help the project. You can set your GPS and record tracks that you then use to update the maps for others.

The problem right now is the number of nodes you can download are limited so you can not download a city like Boston for your GPS.

Hope some readers here start helping out.

    An update to this.

I wanted to get a map for a local area but the Garmin maps were so out of date. Many of the local streets are not on them. I found a site that creates Garmin maps from the OpenStreetMaps. It has almost all the new streets thanks to users.

Look for your area if you need maps and don't want to pay for them. In many cases, much more current than the ones you purchase.
