    Default WGT624v3 router

    OK all you router guru's,

I need some info on a Netgear WGT624 v3 router.

Can I use it with or with out 3rd party software as a WIFI repeater, or WIFI bridge? (I'm not familure with this brand)

I have a friend with 0 funds, that has and old one and would like to share my internet service, I am allready trying to beam a signal at his location, (2 watts into a 19 dBI yagi) but due to terrain I think the signal is getting blocked by a low hill.

There is a location that I do get a signal, it is his well shack, (off to the left of the hill) we have AC power there and it would be an ideal repeater shack, if I can get his old netgear router to work as a WIFI repeater.

Anyone know of any way to flash this brand of router with some software (if needed) that will act as a WIFI repeater or bridge?

    Terryl

The version 3 can not be flashed with ddwrt third party firmware, I briefly checked Openwrt and Tomato and didn't find anything promising either.

You should more than likely be able to configure it as a wireles client with the firmware it has.

No need to flash with any third party software.
    Update to the latest firmware.
Then use telnetEnable.exe to apply the commands provided by the built-in OS to enable client/bridge/repeater mode.

OK, I'm a hardware guy, so first I download this TelnetEnanble to the PC I'm using to flash the router, right?

The do something with it connected to the router, and then it changes the routers configuration?

The old brain is having a hard time wrapping it's grey cells around this for some reason, maybe the last bout with sickypoo was too much for it.

Anyone have some steps on how this is done?

OK, I downloaded that program and the Telenet one, I have beat my head against the wall for 10 hours, and havent got it to work yet.

I don't know if what I'm trying to do is possible on this router, but they say it can be done.

    Info on my setup:

Main WIFI router, 2 watt booster, 18 dBi yagi pointing to a WIFI transceiver, this WIFI transceiver unit is the first stop, it has a 2 watt output, this link works fine, the end of the second leg is where the Netgear router is going.

I can see the 2 watt unit at the first stop with my laptop at the pump shack where the WTG624 Net gear router is going, but I can't get the (&^^%^%^%$@^%$ WGT624 thing to see the main router, (bench testing) nor the WIFI transceiver.

I'm quitting this for now as my head hurts.
