The fan in my Sonicview 8000 HD is very noisy (LOL , wakes you up at night time).
Does this fan serve any purpose? Can I just take it out, and do without it?

Your call to do with or without but it helps some what with cooling the stb. Seen some on e bay that should work as replacement. Using an old case fan inside one at the moment. Mounts in place fairly good between the mainboard and power supply.

Go to frozencpu dot com, they have some very very quiet fans, look at the ones rated at dB, the lower the dB the quieter the fan.
And I wouldn't run the receiver without it, as they put one in there for a reason.Code:https://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g36/c437/list/p1/Fans-12_Volt_Fans_by_dB.html

i took mine out took the little sticker off and added a bit of grease made a big difference![]()
I also added a second Fan mounted on top of case cover (cut a hole in cover) Blowing air down over PR supply board & such
A lot better cooling all around

yes and with parts left over i don't know how i always do that lol
The Little fan in the Back of Rec. is for sucking the warm air out, Air-Flow, and with the one on top
All I did was pickup a 5v lead off of supply, etc. and solder to it.
I found a good solution for our group during the day:I mounted 3 25mm 12 volt fans inside the top cover, blowing down. One stuated over the 8psk, one over the spansion/tsop area, and one over the power supply. The fans run from a 5 volt source.Unnoticeable noise with great cooling.
Thought I had saved the info from what was posted on e bay a while back. If memory serves < replaces stock or an option. Just an fyi in case.
